GBR's Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Committee & Young Professionals Network Co-hosted The Third Annual

Pride Month Celebration "Empowering LGBTQ+ Voices

& Homeownership"

Greater Bergen REALTORS® celebrated Pride Month in June with the third annual Lunch and Learn event, Empowering LGBTQ+ Voices & Homeownership at GBR headquarters in Saddle Brook. This year, the event was co-hosted by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and the Young Professionals Network (YPN).

Members in attendance heard from keynote speakers, Roderick Logan, the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Business Enablement at Anywhere Real Estate Inc., and Christian Fuscarino, the Executive Director of Garden State Equality. The speakers provided insight into the importance of DEI in real estate business practices, as well as resources for REALTORS to best serve clients in the LGBTQ+ community.

Following the keynote speakers, 2024 DEI Committee Chair, Andre Porter moderated a REALTOR® peer panel discussion among speakers, Sergio St. Jean, Luisa Gonzalez, and Ira Goodman. Panelists highlighted ways those in the real estate industry can adapt DEI resources, education, and advocacy into working with clients in the LGBTQ+ community to foster successful transactions and meaningful working relationships.

"In our business, allyship, leading with intent, and fostering an inclusive environment are paramount; and it all starts with us," stated Andre Porter as a closing remark.

Proceeds from the event supported Garden State Equality, the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization in New Jersey, with over 150,000 members. Garden State Equality lifts up the diverse voices of LGBTQ+ communities through education and advocacy to advance the movement for equality in New Jersey and nationally.

The Real Estate Consumer Protection Enhancement Act Makes its Way Out of Assembly Committee

The Real Estate Consumer Protection Enhancement Act was officially introduced into the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee by Assemblyman Freiman and was unanimously voted out of committee.

The bill, which New Jersey REALTORS® helped craft with the bill sponsors, will mandate the use of the seller’s property condition disclosure statement, disclosure of representation at open houses, allow for designated agency, and mandate buyer agency agreements.

Existing-Home Sales Edged Lower by 0.7% in May as Median Sales Price Reached Record High of $419,300

Key Highlights:

Existing-home sales slipped 0.7% in May to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.11 million.

Sales descended 2.8% from one year ago.

The median existing-home sales price jumped 5.8% from May 2023 to $419,300 – the highest price ever recorded and the eleventh consecutive month of year-over-year price gains.

The inventory of unsold existing homes grew 6.7% from the previous month to 1.28 million at the end of May, or the equivalent of 3.7 months' supply at the current monthly sales pace.

"Eventually, more inventory will help boost home sales and tame home price gains in the upcoming months. Increased housing supply spells good news for consumers who want to see more properties before making purchasing decisions."

India’s Investor Appeal Comes Into View as Interest Rates Remain High and Growth Continues

For many years, India’s real estate markets languished in the shadow of a booming Mainland China, with investors flocking there to buy real estate and tap into emerging demand. More recently, as China has struggled to mediate structural oversupply in real assets, investment flows are moving increasingly in a southerly direction. A panel at the ULI’s 2024 Asia Pacific Summit in Tokyo addressed the dynamics of current investment landscapes in each market.

While economic issues have been a major reason for declining flows into China, they are to some extent also a natural consequence of the country’s evolution toward developed-market status, according to Tim Wang, co-president of logistics and industrial real estate at GLP China. As urbanization trends and infrastructure construction have peaked, demand has faded for new facilities.
