Rivanna Village - Potential Purchasers
Rivanna Village Outline As announced at last week's Annual Meeting, a group of three local developers is hoping to purchase, within the next few months, the entire Village of Rivanna land from Glenmore Associates.  This is the land that lies between Glenmore and Route 250.  The group is headed by Andrew Boninti, supported by Alex Toomey and Chris Sarpy.  They are hoping to implement lower density housing than was approved at the time of the 2007 re-zoning, with less commercial space and more single-family homes.  As required by recent changes in regulation, they have received preliminary approval from the Army Corps of Engineers regarding the protection of water flows. A large part of the planned village contains a park which retains the natural steams.  The group has yet to submit a plan to Albemarle County, who will most likely require another re-zoning application, and possibly an amendment to the Village of Rivanna Master Plan.  Both of these could take a long time.

The GCA Board is taking this opportunity to work with both the developers and the county on the possibility of providing an increased buffer between Glenmore Way and Rivanna Village, so as to help protect the character of the entrance corridor to Glenmore.  This may require the GCA to purchase some of the land as a new common area.  The developers have expressed an interest in this, although it will be some time before such plans are finalized, and any purchase of land would of course be subject to favorable support from our members.  More news on this later.

On-Line Access to Gatehouse Information
Also announced at the Annual Meeting was a plan toGatehouse provide residents with direct on-line access to their own personal information used by the gatehouse. You would be amazed how out-of-date most phone numbers, permanent guests, and emergency contacts are!  Not to mention spelling mistakes!  The system will allow you to correct, add, or delete any of your information without having to call the gatehouse staff, and you can even enter your own vehicles and visitor information directly into the system.  Each owner or resident will receive a unique password to access their data, which they can change at any time, or recover by email if they forget it.  Full details, together with your own initial password, will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

Deer...
Deer The subject of deer came up at the Annual Meeting.  Some of you may be aware that the Country Club has been taking steps to reduce the deer population, by the use of a small number of bow hunters on club property, particularly late in the evening.  In fact this style of bow hunting on club property has been happening on and off since the early Glenmore days, but has not been widely communicated.  Although the GCA has taken no part in this process, and no hunting is taking place on GCA property, a couple of our residents have unfortunately come across the hunted deer close to or on their property.  The board accepted that there needs to be better communication to residents about these activities, as well as an up-front agreement with the Country Club on the locations and protocols for culling deer on their property.  The deer hunting will cease this week, and the GCA will ensure that residents are informed before further hunting on club property takes place.

... and Coyotes!
Coyote We have had reports that at least one pack of coyotes has been spotted within Glenmore.  They tend to come out to hunt young deer after dark.  Residents may want to make sure that their small pets are not left out in yards at these times.

Heard on the grapevine ...
We hear that the new store under construction at Shadwell will be called "Shadwell Market", with four gasoline pumps.  Its concept will be similar to the  Belair Market on Rte 250, west of Charlottesville. They will sell wine, beer, coffee, some grocery items, and a lunch menu with the emphasis on upscale sandwiches.
