Congratulations: Susan Schoenherr
NASCSP James Gardner Weatherization Award

T his year’s James Gardner award winner is Susan Schoenherr. Susan served the WAP for over 26 years working at the local community action agency level working her way up from crew, to energy auditor to QCI. The last 17 years she has used the circulation of knowledge and technical skills to serve as WAP Director. In 2017, Susan transferred from Florida to ACTION Inc., the second largest WAP funded community action agency in Georgia. They have a tremendous impact on the success of the state’s WAP spend and production goals. Prior to Susan taking over as WAP Director for ACTION, the agency was struggling with increased funding demands on staff and resources, resulting in funding de-allocations .

Since taking over the WAP Director role at ACTION, Susan has not only delivered on the state’s 99% spend and production goal for her agency but aligned the agency to take on additional funds from HHS this year to better serve her low-income clients. Susan has a wonderful, driven, high energy work ethic and is focused on delivering results within the WAP program. Susan worked hard on increasing procurement and outreach efforts to expand her contractor base from two contractors to six contractors, allowing ACTION to use the contract labor as leverage so they consistently deliver monthly production. Susan and the team at ACTION dependably deliver high-quality invoices to GEFA monthly, and we use them as examples to struggling agencies on how to do things right.

When scheduling with her QCI gets tight, Susan is willing to go back out into the field, utilizing her Energy Auditor and QCI certifications to make sure ACTION delivers on its monthly spend and production goals. She is a great asset to Georgia’s WAP with a lifetime of dedication to the WAP program goal of helping our low-income citizens out of poverty, one unit at a time.

Congratulations to Susan Schoenherr and Action, Inc.!!!
