Sorry We're a Little Late But...
We just finished Summer Bird Camp 2018!
More on this in our next E-news but the campers had a lot of fun! Big thank you to our dedicated volunteer team for helping this come together!
Stay tuned for more photos and a summary next month!
Only 3 Spots Left for the Duluth Birding Trip
Out of our three advertised birding trips, the only one that we have still openings for is our GCBO birding tour to Duluth, Minnesota.

And we only have room for 3 more people!

This boreal winter birding tour will be co-lead by GCBO Director, Martin Hagne, and Minnesota birding expert, Kim Eckert.

Kim is a renowned birding tour leader both in Minnesota and around the US. He's written "The Birder's Guide to Minnesota" and holds the record for seeing the most bird species in Minnesota- 411. Without leaving the state, he's seen more than 40% of all bird species in North America!

With guides like these you know the birding is going to be good. Join us for this tour before it closes!

And keep an eye out for more birding opportunities with GCBO coming in 2019!
GCBO Office Volunteer Needed
Tricia, our GCBO Office Manager, needs a bit of help in the office here at the GCBO headquarters. She could use help for a few hours doing some data computer entry, some document filing, and supply organizing.
If you can help in the next week or two she would be grateful! Please call or email Tricia for details at: tpatton@gcbo.org or 979-480-0999
Wildlife Photography Presentation and Workshops
Kevin Karlson, expert wildlife photographer, will be on site at GCBO Friday October 5th to present his work on the recently published "Birds of Prey" book. He will talk about the different groups of raptors found in North America, sharing his photos and his raptor field stories with us. A $5 donation is suggested for admittance. Kevin will be available to sign copies of his book after and we will have his book for purchase at GCBO.
Photography Workshops with Kevin
Kevin will be running two photography sessions the Saturday and Sunday after his talk (October 6th and 7th). See below for details:

Saturday, October 6, 2018: Wildlife Photography:

Join Kevin here at GCBO Headquarters as he shares basic and advanced techniques for photographing wildlife. Some technical knowledge of how cameras work will be helpful for this session. Bring a photo on a USB drive for a critique session (first 20 registrants can bring 2 photos.) Group critique will provide helpful feedback in a fun learning experience!

Sunday, October 7, 2018: Raptor Photography:

The last workshop will take place at Smith Point Hawk Watch at Candy Abshier WMA in Smith Point, TX. Kevin will be leading a field session where participants will photograph raptors in flight, butterflies, wildlflowers and whatever else we can find!
Each participant will get individual attention on how to best capture flight and action wildlife images. If you want to take your action photography to the next level, this is a good workshop for you. Reminder- there are no services at Smith Point. Bring your lunch, sunscreen, hat, binoculars, camera, spotting scope, and plenty to drink.
Pricing:

Sunday workshop limited to 20 participants
Cost:  $80 for Saturday
$80 for Sunday
$140 for Saturday/Sunday combination

Wish List
Your in-kind contributions help us tremendously by freeing up much needed funds for our research and projects. Thank you!!

Black Oil Sunflower Seed
We feed year-round here at GCBO, and during migration at Quintana. We stock our GCBO feeders to help augment natural foods, and this also helps our monthly banding research project.

1 Gallon Plastic Pots
We can use your used 1 gallon nursery plant pots for the Growery. We go through a lot of 1 gallon pots when potting up new plants. Let’s recycle them here. We’ll take one or a hundred!

Sugar
Our hummers are thirsty! We keep hummer feeders up all year and those guys suck up that sugar water! We always need regular sugar. We mix 4 parts water and 1 part sugar, and no food coloring!!
