Kevin Karlson Workshop Highlights

Twelve lucky participants spent two days learning the ins and outs of wildlife photography from Kevin Karlson in October. We spent Saturday learning camera techniques and then had a great learning experience critiquing participants previously taken photographs. On Sunday we spent the day in the field at Smith Point and Anahuac practicing our newly learned techniques! It was a great workshop with lots of learning and fun. Thank you Kevin Karlson!
Quintana Work Day

Hi all! We need some help at the Quintana Neotropic Bird Sanctuary!
The new birding tower has been built and we need to do some trail maintenance. The heavy rains and the construction has left the sanctuary a bit untidy. We could use your help for a morning of:
Trail Trimming, Mowing, and Weeding. We also need to put in some new fence posts, and hang some signs. If we have the equipment there we will also place caliche on some of the trails. Please come out and help to get the sanctuary back in shape!
Please bring gloves, water, bug spray, loppers/trimmers, and shovels.
Thursday, November 15
8:00 am – 12:00 noon
THANK YOU!!
PS: Yes, it will be a bit chilly but it's still on!!!
GCBO Birding Trips
We still have a few spots left for the Magee Marsh and Tawas Point Birding Trips! Sign up now to secure your place (openings are going fast).
Christmas Bird Counts
Christmas Bird Counts are right around the corner. It’s a wonderful way to get out in the field and seeing some birds, and helping collect avian data. You can find all the counts across the world at the National Audubon website.

For Texas counts you can go HERE

There are three local Brazoria County counts we’d love help with. You can find more info and contacts at the above website.

Bird Banding Saturday November 17th

What a month we had in October, banding birds on site. We had a total of 71 birds in the hand, 62 new captures and 9 recaptures, spanning across 18 species!

We'll be banding again Saturday, November 17th from 8 am - noon right here at GCBO. As always, this is a free event open to the public - stop on by to learn about our bird research, banding, and to enjoy our nature trails or shop our native plant nursery!

PS: If you're interested in raptor banding, our bird banders- Robert and Kay Lookingbill- are offering a raptor banding experience in our auction! Check it out when the auction goes live!
Here are some highlights from last month's banding, thank you Brooks Short for the photos!

New Donation and Membership Platform Up and Running
We've revamped and completely updated our Membership and Donation pages on the GCBO website!
These new platforms should be much more streamlined and easier to use!
Please help support GCBO’s mission and join us in carrying out our bird research and education!

Wish List
Your in-kind contributions help us tremendously by freeing up much needed funds for our research and projects. Thank you!!

Black Oil Sunflower Seed and Chicken Scratch
We feed year-round here at GCBO, and during migration at Quintana. We stock our GCBO feeders to help augment natural foods, and this also helps our monthly banding research project.

1 Gallon Plastic Pots
We can use your used 1 gallon nursery plant pots for the Growery. We go through a lot of 1 gallon pots when potting up new plants. Let’s recycle them here. We’ll take one or a hundred!

Coffee Table:
We are looking for a used Coffee Table for the Field House.

Fire Proof Storage Box:
We are in need of a metal fire proof storage cabinet to store flammable paints etc. in.
