It’s hard to believe we’ve passed the one-year mark since COVID 19 was declared a pandemic.
With three vaccines now available, it feels like there’s light at the end of the tunnel! We are greatly looking forward to when the Goodman Center can operate in full swing again, and we can welcome all of you back to the Center.
March brings a new season and Women’s History Month. Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. GCC is thankful for all of the staff members and volunteers who work hard to lift up and celebrate the women in our community.
We hope you find these updates informational, and we enjoy being able to connect with all of you virtually. Please always reach out if you have any information you would like to share with other volunteers through our newsletter.

Last week, we kicked off our annual Girls Inc. of Greater Madison fundraiser to date, and this one feels more important than ever before. The pandemic brought its share of challenges to all of our programs, and Girls Inc. was not immune. This program relies on reaching girls where they are -- so when schools closed last year, our girls were left without a lifeline.
Our Girls Inc. sites have been working hard to bridge that gap, but there are hundreds of girls who haven't been in touch with Girls Inc. So we're working to get Care Kits in the hands of 500 girls. We want to let them know we're still here, we care about them, and we can't wait to welcome them back to Girls Inc.

Did you know that Goodman has virtual volunteers? The Goodman Center normally hosts study tables for the East High School athletes during the school year. For the past months, with virtual learning, we’ve had volunteers virtually tutoring these students in all academic courses. Read about one of our stellar tutors below!
Samantha is a recent graduate from UW-Madison with a B.S. in Biochemistry. She is currently serving for one year with the AmeriCorps and Dane County Department of Human Services as a BadgerCare Outreach Specialist for those in the Dane County Jail and individuals experiencing homelessness. She’s in the process of interviewing for medical schools. Samantha volunteers in the East High School Athletic Tutoring Program, where she supports students on the football and cheerleading teams with numerous class subjects. She decided to volunteer because she wanted to serve her community in different ways throughout her year of service, especially working with local youth to support them in their academic achievements. Amanda has greatly enjoyed her time as a volunteer and she’s looking forward to the rest of the semester.

Thank you for your continued support of the Goodman Community Center! It’s with your dedication and support that all our programs thrive. You are very much appreciated! The volunteer team, along with programs, is looking for feedback on your volunteer experience to collect data on what is working and where we need to improve. This survey will provide the new volunteer manager (coming soon!) with valuable information on our volunteer program. We’re interested in feedback from volunteers who have volunteered with the Goodman Center in the last year and a half. We understand that some of you have not been able to volunteer during the pandemic, but want to resume volunteering when things are more normal, and we value your feedback. All answers will be anonymous. You also have the chance to win a gift card by completing the survey!
