GCEP Project Update

Hello,

In an effort to further the Project's engineering efforts, Eversource contractors continue to conduct field tests along the proposed Project routes. This activity typically is performed using an excavator and vacuum truck to dig small trenches and determine the location of existing underground utilities. Areas are then backfilled and restored.

The following is an update on locations in Cambridge:

  • Ames Street @ Amherst Street (Complete)
  • Broadway between Galileo Galilei Way and Third Street (Ongoing - will be completed early-March)
  • Linskey Way between Third Street and Second Street (Upcoming - scheduled to begin first week of March)

Work Hours

  • Typical construction hours field test activities are Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some work may be conducted outside of these hours based on traffic volumes and will require approval from the City of Cambridge.

Other Happenings

GCEP is a proposed long-term solution to bolster system reliability to meet growing energy needs and to further facilitate access to clean energy resources for our customers. Eversource must also implement interim solutions to reliably serve our customers.

On February 26, 2024, construction crews began work to install a third transformer and associated equipment within the existing Prospect Street Substation located in Somerville's Union Square.
