Volume 5 - Week of March 15, 2021
Dear GCNYC Community,
I hope you are all safe, happy and healthy.
It has been quite a year. This week marks one year of lockdown here in the US, bringing with it the monumental changes we have individually and collectively experienced. As we begin to see light on the horizon with a national vaccine roll out, it is important for us also to reflect on the year to date. This Thursday, Seisei Tatebe-Goddu will be facilitating space for the GCNYC community to reflect upon and discuss the experience of the last year. Please see below for details.
December 2020 Alumna Emily Bass has recently become involved with Citizen's Climate Lobby and invites you to consider joining as well. Citizen's Climate Lobby has a committee focused on engaging fashion brand and company representatives to sign a declaration of support in order to encourage members of Congress to enact climate solutions in an effective, bipartisan, economically supportive and equitable way. This Declaration with its signatories will be presented to legislators in June 2021 in Washington, D.C. If you are in a position to sign the petition or present to members of your company who can, please take a look here.
Have a great week ahead.
Warmly,
Michelle Gabriel
Director of Career Services and Strategic Partnerships

Who Holds the Keys to Learning Outcomes?
We have been working on health for all, no poverty, and more equality for many years. Despite some progress, we need to do much more to create a more equitable society and a sustainable planet.
The cause is an economic system that generates inequality and resists change. The solution is a system where the people who experience this system's consequences can hold those who cause those consequences to account.
This would mean change the economic system, legislation, governance, management, and practices.
So, how can we scale our efforts?

Fashion Revolution Week
Fashion Revolution Week is the time when we come together as a global community to create a better fashion industry. It centres around the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1,138 people and injured many more on 24 April 2013. This year, as we mark 8 years since the tragedy, Fashion Revolution Week will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Our campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions.

Sustainable Fashion Forum
Each year, we look forward to hosting hundreds of like-minded industry-leaders and conscious fashion advocates IRL to share ideas, find practical solutions, and discuss the future of sustainable fashion. While the format in which we connect may look a little different, we’re excited to curate a fully-immersive digital experience featuring the same great speakers and inspiring conversations highlighting diverse voices across fashion's entire value chain.
From innovative and engaging conference keynotes and sessions to workshops, networking, and digital exhibitions, we are excited to share our reimagined event paired with dynamic digital content to bring you everything you’ve come to know and love about SFF IRL — digitally from wherever you are around the globe.
