Volume 6 - Week of March 29, 2021

Dear GCNYC Community,

I hope you are all able to enjoy the increasingly warm weather!

We are excited to share with you the recent launch of the Career Services page on the GCNYC website! There you can find resources to support you on your career journey as well as details on the services we offer you as a student or alumni. We are expanding these pages as we speak and I look forward to sharing more in depth and expanded resources soon.

I am happy to share with you a new opportunity from Women's Association of Venture & Equity (WAVE). WAVE has launched a new series of “Open Houses” for women considering a career in alternative investments or who are early in their careers. The goal of these sessions is to help facilitate networking and share information. This complimentary opportunity is available to female students interested in exploring the alternative investment space.

The next open session will be offered on Friday, April 2 at 10:00 am – 11:00 am EDT and will be featuring guest speaker Tara Gadgil, Principal at Thoma Bravo. The format will be an open session where Harisha Haigh, Managing Director Private Investments & Real Assets at Northwestern University Investment Office, and Tara will answer questions. To participate, register here.

Have a great week ahead.

Warmly,

Michelle Gabriel

Measuring the Movement:
Are Your Purpose-Driven Ad Campaigns Effective?

Brands communicating their ‘purpose’ and looking to drive consumer behavior change at scale lack a common benchmark through which they can measure, compare and improve the efficacy of their efforts.
Through a unique collaboration with Brands for Good, global consumer insights experts from some of the world’s most well-known and trusted brands have worked together to create a new tool for their own marketing leadership, capable of accelerating their brands progress, and now they are opening it up for the benefit of all.
The Ad Sustainability Awareness Platform (ASAP) is a proprietary tool that measures the power of a campaign to drive action against the nine most impactful sustainable behaviors that consumers can take.

Who Holds the Keys to Learning Outcomes?

We have been working on health for all, no poverty, and more equality for many years. Despite some progress, we need to do much more to create a more equitable society and a sustainable planet.
The cause is an economic system that generates inequality and resists change. The solution is a system where the people who experience this system's consequences can hold those who cause those consequences to account.
This would mean change the economic system, legislation, governance, management, and practices.
So, how can we scale our efforts?

Corporate Cancel Culture and Rise of Stakeholder Accountability

Although the term “cancel culture” is still hotly debated, the rise of stakeholder accountability is undeniable. Today, brands must learn how to navigate this new norm before one misstep puts them in a social media firestorm. This session will feature new research on how individuals are using the act of cancel culture to hold brands accountable, the mechanics of corporate cancel culture in society today and how leading with Purpose can help mitigate future cancellations. Hear from a panel of experts from across industries to learn more about how organizations are addressing this cultural phenomenon – or at times – approaching hot-button issues head on.

Fashion Revolution Week

Fashion Revolution Week is the time when we come together as a global community to create a better fashion industry. It centres around the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1,138 people and injured many more on 24 April 2013. This year, as we mark 8 years since the tragedy, Fashion Revolution Week will focus on the interconnectedness of human rights and the rights of nature. Our campaign will amplify unheard voices across the fashion supply chain and harness the creativity of our community to explore innovative and interconnected solutions.
