GCP ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAMMING HAS ENDED

THANK YOU

Thank you to all who attended Graduate Commons Programming during the 2021-22 academic year. This was a challenging year for GCP, while dealing with Covid-19, continued systemic racism, and violence, we had a number of staffing changes and worked to gradually add more in-person events. With varying comfort levels around in-person gatherings, the latter hasn't been easy, but we see light at the end of the tunnel. That's why...

Summer Programming will take place IN PERSON! GCP Summer Programming is scaled back, however, to allow the staff to rest and recharge to prepare for Welcome Season in mid-August. Additionally, the weekly GCP Newsletter will be sent every other Thursday throughout the summer to reflect our reduced programming. New and returning residents are welcome to join!

Our Staff will be in the office M-TH (June/July), with some varying vacation schedules. Feel free to contact graduatecommons@harvard.edu with any questions. Please allow a little extra time for responses.

SURVEY RESULTS

We heard from many of you in the survey that our programming positively affected your emotional and relational well-being. In fact, 61% of you stated that GCP programming "helped you feel settled at Harvard"; while 45% of you said it helped you"feel like part of a community".

We also heard that you'd like more opportunities to socialize and meet people outside of your programs, as well as to see programming in your building or area. So that is what GCP will focus on come Fall 2022.

The month commemorates the progress of LGBTQ+ history and civil rights, and celebrates queer stories and community. Learn more about Pride at Harvard.

Family Drag Queen Story Hour

Tuesday, June 7th at 4:00 pm EST

GSAS Student Center, Lehman Hall

Join the Harvard GSAS Student-Parents Association, Harvard LGBTQ@GSAS Association, Graduate Commons Program, and the GSAS Student Center to celebrate PRIDE month with the annual Drag Story Hour! Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.

We'll enjoy children's stories, songs, and crafts with local drag artists as we celebrate creativity and diversity beyond binaries and stereotypes! A local drag performer will read their favorite stories and share their favorite songs, and we'll serve popsicles as a sweet treat!

Find more information and register via Engage here! Please note that a Harvard ID is required to register via Engage. If you have trouble registering for the event, please email gcp.family.programming@gmail.com for assistance!
