National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.

Peckham Mentoring
Peckham has been providing mentoring in the area for over a decade. Peckham provides the RAMP (Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program) program. RAMP is a high tech, career focused mentoring program for youth who need a stable, positive role model. Youth will participate in weekly hang-outs to support each other and talk about goals and next steps. Each youth will also meet regularly with a mentor and develop an ongoing relationship through their match.

The Genesee County Prevention Coalition offers the following resources FREE for schools, parents and youth-serving professionals to assist in youth substance use prevention and mental health awareness. Delivery is available in Genesee County.
Youth Connections Magazine Issue #5 features articles on Positive Communication with Kids, "Sharenting", Parents' Attitudes and Youth Use, The Central Nervous System, and Fentanyl: Not Just Another Synthetic Drug. Additionally, you will see photos of GCPC Assets in Action and some important Faces in the Crowd among the tips and ads providing prevention resource information. Back issues #1 and #3 are also available; note that these magazines continue to be relevant well past publication date. See our website, www.thegcpc.org, for a digital look at all the issues.
Do Your Part: Be the Solution, Parents Create a Safe Space Toolkit was developed to empower parents to identify signs of youth substance use in their homes. Featuring a list of common items related to drug and alcohol use with descriptions and pictures. This guide will aide parents in gaining knowledge about youth substance use including drug facts and current trends. Included in this publication is the community resource guide described below. Also useful for professionals who serve youth. Note that GCPC staff have a sample of all the common items and are available to present a 'bedroom scene' where you can see how these items can be hidden among a youths' belongings.

My Life, My Quit™ flyers (8.5 x 11) and posters (11 x 17) encourage youth to quit vaping and nicotine use. My Life, My Quit is a Comprehensive Youth Vaping and Tobacco Quitline Program of National Jewish Health. As the nation’s leading respiratory hospital and largest non-profit Tobacco Quitline provider, National Jewish Health launched a comprehensive vaping and tobacco cessation program for teens under age 18 who want to stop using tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes. The My Life, My Quit™ program combines best practices using real-time talk, texting, and online chat for youth to reach a Tobacco Cessation Coach. The information on mylifemyquit.com and in the program materials for My Life, My Quit™ are designed for teens and were created through discussions with teens and with subject matter experts and community stakeholders. The materials provided by GCPC include the Michigan Tobacco Quitline number and GCPC website. There are five unique designs, orders will include some of each.

Developing Culturally Targeted Effort for Communities of Color
in Impacting the Opioid Crisis – August 03, 2022, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Since the onset of the opiate crisis the United States has reached the highest rates ever reported in its history. Initially is appeared this epidemic was only impacting Caucasians; however, more recent research has shown that this crisis is in fact impacting already disproportionately impacted by a range of health disparities and the addition of an opioid dependence increases this risk. This training will examine the opiate crisis from a different cultural perspective and will discuss culturally appropriate strategies and practices when working with communities of color.

Developing a Health Disparities Strategy Locally to Impact the Opioid Epidemic – August 09, 2022, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This training will define terms that are essential to the discussion as well as discuss the roots of how inequities were formed. You will also journey into what populations are most impacted, before ending in what roles we can play to help lower disparities while pressing forward in the creation of a more equitable environment.

- Discover how health disparities and other inequities play a role in behavioral health and substance use/misuse.
- Define terminology linked to the discussion of health equity.
- Become aware of their individual responsibility in the goal of attaining equity.
- Describe the overarching role of prevention in moving towards equity.
- Uncover the foundational elements of prevention that equip our field for equity work.

Albert Gay is currently a Master Trainer for TTJ Group, LLC by providing services to no-profit, faith based and community organizations and governmental entities in developing and implementing technical assistance and training services in an innovation and practical format. Albert Gay obtained his B.A. in English Arts from the historically distinguished, Hampton University in Virginia, and obtained his Master of Science in Management from Oakland City University in Indiana. He received his ministry training from Christian International’s Ministry Training College in Florida.
Registration fee is $10 per person.
