“The Global Diversity & Inclusion Benchmarks continues to be a tremendous asset for guiding our DEI work. The standards provide a comprehensive framework to benchmark our DEI progress—identifying gaps and guiding our strategic action planning. The benchmarking process brings together senior leadership, staff, and stakeholders from across our organization, providing yet another opportunity to demonstrate that DEI is everyone’s responsibility, and everyone has a role to play in defining and determining our progressive journey towards positive outcomes.”

ANNOUNCING GDEIB
CO-BRANDING OPPORTUNITY
Your logo here!
+ 2 inside pages
about your DEI program
The Centre is offering all GDEIB users an opportunity to add your organization logo to the front cover of the GDEIB and create two inside pages that will be positioned before the Table of Contents. You may use those two pages to contain a message from your organization or diversity leaders, or a description of your DEI program, or however you see fit.

Please send us a high resolution logo and prepared “camera-ready” copy for the two pages. They will be back-to-back, with the first page appearing on the right side and the second on the left hand side of the page; therefore you cannot create a spread. Cost is $1,000 and we will invoice you. This offer also applies to the Portuguese, Spanish, and French translations – all of which will be ready shortly. Please give us about a week or 10 days from the time we receive your logo and copy for the two pages before we send you your customized GDEIB. Contact [email protected].
SHOW RESPECT AND INCLUSION BY PRONOUNCING NAMES CORRECTLY – FREE FEATURE FOR YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE BLOCK
Taking the time to pronounce names correctly conveys respect and inclusion. One way to help is to enable others to pronounce your name correctly by using a free computer feature provided by NameDrop. The feature is free for individuals. If everyone does this then we will all be able to say others’ names correctly and they will correctly say your name.

DEI CONNECTION WITH
SUSTAINABILITY IS GROWING
Article by: Julie O’Mara, GDEIB Coauthor
I am seeing an increase in Sustainability being connected more and more to DEI. The latest is in The Week, September 17 issue as part of a special section presented by Kiplinger titled The Roaring Twenties 2.0. One of the four “trends to profits” is “sustainable investing.” Kiplinger says: “How a company scores on greenhouse gas emissions, workforce diversity and other non-financial factors is becoming as important to stock pickers as price-earnings ratios and earnings reports.” This is fabulous recognition for DEI.

And, The Centre BOD chair and Expert Panellist Lynda White spoke on September 15 at a meeting on a Sustainability Project of the Canadian Mining Association. And, GDEIB Coauthor and BOD member, Nene Molefi is speaking at the GSG Global Summit 2021: Delivering Impact Solutions for People and Planet conference October 6 to 8 (See related story immediately after).  We first added a category on Connecting DEI and Sustainability in the 2016 GDIB and then strengthened it in the 2021 GDEIB.

Unfortunately not too many DEI practitioners have taken advantage of … or even thought about … the connection. See category 11 in the GDEIB.

HOW TO USE THE GDEIB CERTIFICATION —
STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGE
SHALL WE COUNT YOU IN?
We announced in our 2021 GDEIB Launch Event that we were exploring a voluntary certification process. We have finished the needs assessment and are preparing a plan.  It will help us at this stage to let us know if you are interested in certifying one or more people in your organization. As you know, the GDEIB is free and we intend to keep it free—with a big thank you to our sponsors—see below in this newsletter or go to our website and navigate to Sponsors to learn about our 2021 GDEIB sponsors. We are now seeking sponsors for the certification process, but even with sponsors, plans are to charge for the voluntary certification.

NEW RESEARCH PROJECT UNDERWAY BY COMMUNITY BUSINESS: RACE & CULTURE–THE CONVERSATION IN ASIA
From Community Business: In the wake of recent social turmoil in many countries, the issue of race has been prioritised on the global D&I agenda. Yet many companies are grappling with how to address this topic in Asia. How do we talk about race and culture at work in a way that resonates locally? And what do the dynamics of race and culture look like in different markets in Asia? With strong corporate sponsorship, Community Business is currently leading an ambitious research project - engaging with local stakeholders across 6 markets in Asia to explore answers to these questions and provide recommendations for companies seeking to adopt a progressive approach to addressing race and culture in their workplaces in Asia. The Research Project is divided into three phases with research assets released along the way. Click below to learn more:
