Unity has a source, it has a model, it has an example, and it is the Triune God-head of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. To understand unity, one must first understand the Trinity. Now the Doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most complicated and debated of all Biblical doctrines. It requires both faith and mystery to explain that God is 3-in-1. Our entire belief system hinges upon the Doctrine of the Trinity, if you do not believe it, then you are not, by definition, a Christian. The earliest creeds, both Apostles and Nicene were written to distinguish true Christianity from heresies that denied the truth of the Trinity. Maybe the church's struggle with unity can be traced back to a poor understanding of the God-head community and the mutual affection that the Father, Son and Spirit share for one another. We will for sure be in the deep end of the pool this Sunday, and look forward to being one as we understand the source of power for our unity. |
