GFCO News and Information

In Compass, under each of your products, you have the ability to upload a product image. The “Product Label Image” is intended to display an image of the product’s package for consumer identification on our public product finder. These images are very helpful for consumers that are looking for products while they shop, and we strongly encourage the use of an image for all publicly available products. If you have images that you would like to attach to your products, but don’t want to have to edit each of your products and resubmit them for review, please just send your images to your account representative, or to gfco.clientsupport@gluten.org and we can upload them for you and mark them to be displayed.

If you want to add images yourself, you can follow these steps:

  • Edit the Product
  • Upload an image via the Product Label Image field
  • If you are uploading an image for the first time, you will be prompted with the question “Would like the image to be visible on the product finder?”. Clicking “Yes” will turn that toggle on for you.
  • Make sure the Product is Publicly Available for Sale toggle is “On”.
  • Make sure the Display Image on GFCO Public Product-Finder toggle is “On”.

If you would like to keep the image private, leave the Display Image on GFCO Public Product-Finder toggle switch “Off”.

As a reminder, the Product Label Image field was not intended to be used for trademark-use approval. If you have packaging proofs needing approval, please continue to submit those via email to gfco.branding@gluten.org for trademark-use approval.

Risk Reduction

GFCO assigns a risk factor to every ingredient that is used in certified products. You can see those risk factors in Compass by clicking into the Ingredient tab from the left-hand menu, then checking the Risk Level column. You can sort your ingredients by Risk Level using the arrows at the top of the column

All ingredients with a risk level of 3 or 4 must be tested prior to use in a certified product. But there are ways you can reduce the risk of those ingredients and reduce your testing load.

The first way to reduce your ingredient risk level is to provide a GFCO certificate for that ingredient from your supplier. This will reduce the risk of any ingredient to a 2, and remove the need for required testing.

Alternatively, you can ask your supplier to complete our 3051 document, which applies to single-component grain-based ingredients. If your supplier is able to attest that their ingredient is not grown, harvested, transported, stored or processed alongside gluten-containing grains, we may be able to reduce the risk of that ingredient. If accepted, the 3051 document will reduce the risk of an ingredient by one point, meaning that it will remove the testing requirement for ingredients originally assigned a risk level of 3. It will also reduce the amount of testing required for most risk level 4 ingredients. You can request a 3051 document from your account representative, within an ingredient record in Compass by using the Comments section, or by contacting gfco.clientsupport@gluten.org.

Quarter 2 Testing

Testing data for quarter 2 (April, May and June) was due on July 10th. If you have not already done so, please submit your quarter 2 testing to testing@gluten.org.
