GFDA's cross border partnership with Economic Development Lethbridge, Alberta was the topic this week on the Cross Border Network's Municipal Affairs television show featuring Brett Doney, CEO of the Great Falls Development Alliance, and Trevor Lewington, CEO of Economic Development Lethbridge. Watch on YouTube.

1) Congratulations to Ag Processing Solutions on their ribbon cutting to celebrate the newly expanded facility, now over 11,000 square feet, and the over $1 million dollars of new equipment. Business leaders, community leaders, producers and processors from across our region joined the Ag Processing Solutions team to celebrate and attend demonstration of Ag Processing Solutions' new capacities including de-hulling ancient grains, crushing oil seeds, pelleting kochia, and separating wheat from barley. This new expansion reinforces the company's core mission: partnering with Montana’s agricultural innovators to develop and deliver more Montana-grown products. See KRTV.

2) The Fire Within Awards are one of our favorite nights of the year—a time to come together and celebrate the incredible women entrepreneurs shaping our region with their passion and resilience. Join us this Thursday, March 6, at The Newberry. Doors open at 5:00 PM, with the program beginning at 6:00 PM. Enjoy an unforgettable evening of inspiration, great company, and delicious food as we honor this year’s winners. RSVP now—seats are filling fast! For questions, contact Katie Carvell at 1-406-217-7635 or Katie@GrowGreatFalls.org.

3) Congratulations to Benefis Health System on the completion of renovations to the Sletten Cancer Institute, see KRTV. Congratulations to the new businesses and business expansions in Great Falls featured in this KFBB story, including Pizza Ranch start of construction, Protech Steel's new manufacturing facility, KellerGeist's expansion in Downtown Great Falls and more.

4) GFDA's Food and Ag Development Center hosted a training with Rebecca Soule and Sophia Seffrood of the MSU Food Product Development Lab to discuss the recipe development and food extruder services that MSU offers food manufactures and restaurants. You can watch the recording of the training HERE. All our trainings can be found on GFDA's YouTube channel HERE.

5) We held an online session with a site selector evaluating a potential new large project in Great Falls, reinforcing the region’s growing appeal for investment. We met with a Canadian company considering a multi-phase expansion in Great Falls, further strengthening our cross-border economic ties. We also finalized plans for two upcoming site visits—one with a company in the aerospace sector and another in value-added agriculture—both exploring expansion opportunities in North Central Montana. To continue our business attraction efforts, we submitted an RFI to the Montana Department of Commerce for a property search on behalf of a firearms industry company looking for the right location to grow. This was all in ONE week! If you know of businesses considering expansion in our region, contact Christian Leinhauser at CLeinhauser@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-836-0136.

6) Get ready for 400-500 rural leaders to converge on our community at the first ever International Economic Development Council Rural Retreat to be held in Great Falls June 23-26, 2025. We are working with Great Falls Montana Tourism and many partners to ensure we maximize this opportunity and compel them to come early and stay late, shopping and exploring North Central Montana. Help us showcase why our region is a great place for business investment! Contact Jenn Gallmeier for sponsorship opportunities, Jenn@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-781-9499.

7) Congratulations to Total Construction LLC on obtaining the Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB)Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB), and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) certifications from the Small Business Administration (SBA)! This is a remarkable achievement that will unlock new opportunities in a highly competitive government marketplace. Great Falls Regional APEX played a pivotal role in assisting Total Construction LLC through this process, and we are here to help you do the same. Obtaining these valuable certifications unlocks exclusive government contracting opportunities, setting your business apart from the competition and positioning you for growth and new prospects. Take it to the next level! Contact Shannon Clancy at SClancy@GrowGreatFalls.org or at 1-406-590-1184.

8) Join us on Wednesday, March 26th, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Meadow Lark Country Club for our Angel Investor Networking Event. Unlike traditional pitch events, we won’t play matchmaker—you’ll have the opportunity to network, share ideas, and explore investment opportunities on your own terms. Register here. Who should attend? Accredited investors looking to expand their portfolio in the Great Falls region. Real estate developers, start-ups, and growing businesses seeking equity funding. Not sure if you're an accredited investor? Check out this SEC resource. For details or event prep tips, contact Jenn Gallmeier at 1-406-781-9499 or Jenn@GrowGreatFalls.org.

9) Congratulations to Browning, Choteau, and Fort Benton on each winning $1.25 million Pilot Community Tourism grants from the Montana Department of Commerce! These funds will make a big difference in expanding and diversifying tourism offerings in our region.

10) Jake went to Helena to connect with the Montana Bioscience Alliance for their Future of Biotech in the Big Sky event, generating leads and identifying targets through networking with current bioscience companies and other statewide efforts to increase Montana’s footprint in the bioscience industry cluster. A similar event is in the works for Great Falls late this summer.

11) Our GFDA Small Business Development Center worked with multiple clients this week on profit margins. Understanding your overall profit margin is important but breaking it down by revenue stream can be even more valuable. Do you know which product or service drives the highest net profit? If not, our SBDC advisors can help you analyze your numbers and identify the most profitable areas of your business.  Please reach out to Christian Nichols, CNichols@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-788-9385; Rich Gannon, RGannon@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-836-2078; and Deb McGregor, Deb@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-750-0314.

12) Spring Sunshine is here! Did you know the Sun is a giant nuclear fusion reactor? The core reaches extremely hot temperatures (around 27 million degrees Fahrenheit), turning hydrogen into helium; releasing tremendous energy in the process. Harnessing the powerful energy of the Sun is a valuable way to produce power. The best part? There is no tax on the raw material! Our region is primed for large scale solar development. Reach out to Kristen Blue at 1-406-788-4989 or Kristen@GrowGreatFalls.org.

13) Montana has over 10,000 federal civilian employees -- excellent Montanan's -- some of whom could be your next great employee. The Montana Department of Labor and Industry is organizing a Rapid Response to connect federal employees looking for new career opportunities with Montana employers. Read more on Montana Free Press and KRTV.

14) Nicki Dallison finished her time with GFDA this week. We will miss Nicki’s enthusiasm and creative approach to moving our Downtown Great Falls revitalization goals forward. Nicki will still be in an economic development role with the Site Selectors Guild and we look forward to continued collaboration with her. Jake will be servicing Downtown Great Falls leads and projects until we find a new Downtown Business Development Officer so please reach out to Jake@GrowGreatFalls.org or 1-406-403-4937.

15) We received multiple calls and met with clients concerned about the Federal Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting (BOIR) requirement. Most small businesses in the U.S. must file with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) by March 21st. Filing is free , takes only a few minutes and can be done directly here. Please be aware! Many companies are sending official-looking letters and emails, charging hundreds of dollars to file on your behalf. We have even had clients bringing in these official-looking letters to their sessions. While not technically scams, these services profit from something you can easily do yourself for free. Please carefully read and scrutinize ANY Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting (BOIR) related correspondence to avoid unnecessary fees or misleading offers.

16) Data drives decisions and housing developers need data to enter the market. That’s our approach to attracting housing developers and what we were asked to share at the International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) Leadership Summit in DC. During Jolene's session she was also able to gain insights on how other communities are tackling their housing issues to bring back more tools. Brett gave a presentation on the fast-changing energy markets and how economic developers can take advantage of rapid change. While in DC, Brett met with staff of Senator Daines, Senator Sheehy, and Congressman Downing, as well as federal leaders.

17) GFDA’s Investment Committee helps drive economic growth by securing resources, supporting businesses, and attracting investment to the Great Falls region. Want to make an impact? Join us and help shape our community’s future! Contact Jenn Gallmeier at 1-406-781-9499 or Jenn@GrowGreatFalls.org to get involved.

The loan will be matched by a $250,000 loan from the Montana Board of Investments. We are eager to put loan capital to work to fill financing gaps so your business or real estate development can move forward. Contact Jill Kohles at 1-406-590-1056 or JKohles@GrowGreatFalls.org.

Their support helps create jobs, attract new investment, and strengthen our local economy. Learn more about these incredible contributors by watching this short video.
