1) We’re thrilled to share that Sunset Magazine has recognized Great Falls, Montana, as one of only three towns selected across the entire West for their Best Small Towns in the West 2025 feature.


This national recognition didn’t happen by chance. GFDA and Great Falls Tourism teamed up with DVA on a strategic PR push to showcase our community’s incredible assets. 2) The 30% residential solar tax credit will end in December 2025. The 30% commercial solar tax credit will extend through December 2027, creating opportunities for businesses, farms, tribal entities, nonprofits, and municipalities to take advantage of the incentive. In Cascade County alone, 84% of rooftops are solar viable, and could potentially economically benefit from solar installation. 3) We continue to move multiple attraction projects forward, making great strides across key industries considering North Central Montana for expansion. 4) The GFDA Small Business Development Center team participated in the annual America’s Small Business Development Center Annual Training Conference. With over 180 sessions to choose from, we selected topics that apply to clients within our region. 5) Jake was invited to serve on a Technical Assistance Panel with the Urban Land Institute in Boise, ID. This panel will address economic development concerns for a specific neighborhood in the Boise Valley. While there, Jake will be meeting with Boise-based development, builders, and investment groups to interest them in Great Falls projects.

8) Cybersecurity is a top priority for the Department of Defense (DoD), and businesses involved in federal contracting must comply with new standards. Under FAR 52.204-21, “Basic Safeguarding of Covered Contractor Information Systems,” companies handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or Federal Contract Information (FCI) must meet specific security measures. This week, Great Falls Regional APEX provided consultation and guidance to small businesses in our region, helping them understand and prepare for the cybersecurity measures needed to meet CMMC compliance. At a minimum, businesses must obtain Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 1 to ensure they are safeguarding sensitive data. 9) Our downtown business development efforts are off to a strong start! We’ve already connected with local entrepreneurs, linking them with our lending team on 504 loan opportunities and our SBDC team for projections and business viability support. USDA announced that the first grant application window for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) will open on October 1, 2025. Our freight logistics consultants, Moffat & Nichols, completed key findings of the Great Falls Region Freight Market Assessment and Economic Development Strategy Recommendations. This comprehensive study offers valuable insights into the logistics industry and its potential in our region. We have already begujn work implementing some of the recommendations. Others will need to wait until we work with our partners to secure more resources. Logistics are a key consideration for existing manufacturers in our region, and in attracting new investment in manufacturing operations.

Cybersecurity challenges for businesses continue to grow. The Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC) is offering an array of useful resources to help Montana businesses to protect themselves. MMEC has launched the Certified Manufacturing Associate Apprenticeship program. This one-year program combines on-the-job training with online technical classes on safety, math and measurements, manufacturing processes, and quality control.
