GFWC GA Monthly Connections
|
|
Dear Federated Friends,
It was a wonderful time at the 123rd Annual GFWC Georgia convention and I appreciate the support shown to me during my first convention. While there were challenges at times, I hope those in attendance could embrace them and will laugh about them with me. One of my goals has been for ladies to enjoy themselves at the convention. And, yes, there is certain business we must conduct at our meetings but it was my hope we added some value in our destination convention as we journeyed together to Lake Blackshear. I had hoped to lessen the cost and for those of you in the business of hosting large events, there are many costs associated with hosting meetings of our size. While we are not a huge convention, we still absorb room rental costs, AV costs, and other incidentals along the way. For me, I had a great time celebrating the contributions to our communities and the fellowship of our federated friends. Congratulations to those winning clubs and to GFWC Dunwoody Woman’s Club on the Federated Cup!
Things that will stick out for me will be “the night the lights went out in Georgia” and the boat that never left the dock, enjoying my family as well as my friends on the train trip, a thunderstorm that took the lights out on Saturday morning, and a great time teaching Deb Strahanoksi how to be Southern. These will be memories I will cherish and laugh about throughout the years. Thanks for making them with me!
Our business does not stop though and we continue to push forward. Our next event is to encourage clubs to participate in our annual Day of Service on April 27th. Our theme this year is to “Help a House”. Watch for daily videos from our membership committee led by Cathy Jones, 3rd Vice President, as well as note the information found below in this connection.
We will have a Trek to Tallulah and I hope those of you who have not been to our state office and TFS can make it for this very special event. Part of this event will be the rededication of the State Presidents Garden. Please make plans to join us on June 1 from 1:00-3:00. Ladies traveling to us may want to enjoy a light lunch at Lipscomb Cottage at 12:00.
With Federated Friendship,
Tina Daniel

Awards
: Awards are a great way to recognize the work and achievements of our clubwomen who give so unselfishly to others throughout the year. However, the real winners are the people we serve in our communities and across the globe. Convention 2019 was a great time where we recognized the many achievements of our clubwomen throughout Georgia. I can’t thank Becky Smith (Junior Convention Chair 2019) and all of the Junior clubwomen who worked diligently to make the weekend so much fun. The Campfire and Smores, Scavenger Hunt, door prizes, gift bags, videos, slides and so many more things were perfect. Thank you to everyone who came, participated in our meetings and shopped. While we had a few issues with the lights and weather, we are women who make the best of every situation.
