Research continues to emerge on the mouth-body connection and the critical role oral health plays in overall health and wellness. Traditionally, bacteria has been the focus of most oral diseases. This course explores the role viruses may play with periodontal disease, oral cancer and tooth decay.
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1.   Review virology
2.    Discover cross-kingdom interactions between bacteria, viruses and fungi.
3.   Explore the association between viruses and oral diseases.

AU NATURALE: ORAL HEALTH AND HOMEOPATHIC TRENDS
 
Holistic and alternative medicine trends are on the rise.
 
More and more people are seeking out natural ways to feel better, improve their health and minimize the need for harmful chemicals and invasive procedures. The dental team has the opportunity to serve as a valuable resource for optional oral and overall health.
This course will provide background on natural healing practices as well as an overview of current oral and homeopathic trends and alternative medicine culture. Join us as we discuss essential oils, teething jewelry, charcoal, acupuncture and much more.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
1.    Understand cultural diversity and the role it plays in the dental settings.
2.   Discuss research and literature regarding natural options for oral health.
3.    Identify current social media and TikTok trends.
4.    Review current professional recommendations.

Meet Your Professional Educator:

Lancette VanGuilder, RDH, BS graduated with her dental hygiene degree from the University of South Dakota in 1995. For the two last decades, she has been actively involved in dental hygiene leadership and advocacy on the local, state and national level. She has expertise as dental hygiene faculty with public health programs, periodontics and local anesthesia. She has facilitated strategic planning, legislative efforts and leadership training for dental hygiene associations in 6 states on the west/pacific coast and has worked with legislators in Nevada and Washington DC on access to care issues. Lancette is a past president of the Nevada Dental Hygienists Association and is a past recipient of the Nevada Dental Hygienist of the Year award. On the national level, she recently served for 4 years on the board of directors for the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) and currently serves on the national ADHA Leadership Development Committee.

General Information:
Greater Fort Worth Dental Hygienists’ Association (GFWDHA) will award 4 hours of CE credit to attendees present for entire lecture. This course meets the TSBDE Rule 104.1~Continuing Education Requirements for ‘technical or scientific as related to clinical care’ or ‘risk management’.

Replacement Certificates:
GFWDHA will charge a $75.00 Auditable Document Replacement Fee for each certificate needing
replacement. As per TSBDE Rule 104.5~Auditable

Documentation: Each licensee shall maintain in his/her possession auditable documentation of continuing education hours completed for a minimum of three years.

Please be on time. Attendees must be present for the entire course for full credit.

Confirmation of course registration will not be sent. Registrants will only be notified if the course is sold out or cancelled.

Refunds/Cancellation: Written refund requests must be received at least 7 days prior to the presentation, a $25 processing fee will apply. GFWDHA reserves the right to cancel this program if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.
