Understanding Peri-Implant Diseases: What Does The Evidence Say?
Course Description:
Dental implants are a widely accepted viable treatment option for missing teeth and edentulism. World-wide the number of implants placed annually continues to grow. As placement increases so does the prevalence of peri-implant diseases. To effectively manage the oral health care needs of patients with dental implants, clinicians need to know and understand the evidence for diagnosis and recognize the risk factors for peri-implant diseases. This course provides an evidence-based review of peri-implant diseases focusing on diagnosis, treatment and strategies for prevention.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
  • Develop an understanding of the evolution of implant dentistry
  • Discuss treatment planning options, types of implants and procedures
  • Describe the etiology of
peri-implant diseases
  • Recognize the risk factors of implant related diseases and utilize the appropriate assessment techniques to properly treat implant restored teeth
  • Examine various methods of implant debridement
  • Discuss the need for structured, calibrated office philosophy on maintenance schedules and referrals
Meet Your Professional Educator: Lisa Mayo is the Central Region Clinical Educator for DENTSPLY SIRONA. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from the Caruth School of Dental Hygiene at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas TX. She then received her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Ohio University.
Lisa has published over 40 peer-review continuing education courses and articles since 2006 on a broad range of topics for the Canadian Dental Journal, Dental Economics, Penn Well, RDH, Access, and Dimensions of Dental Hygiene.
Lisa has over 16 years of clinical experience in general and periodontal dental practices. She served as the Dental Hygiene Program Director and a full time Professor at a dental hygiene program in Texas for 6 years before joining the DENTSPLY SIRONA Education team.

General Information:
Greater Fort Worth Dental Hygienists’ Association (GFWDHA) will award 4 hours of CE credit to attendees present for entire lecture. This course meets the TSBDE Rule 104.1~Continuing Education Requirements for ‘technical or scientific as related to clinical care’ or ‘risk management’.
Replacement Certificates:
GFWDHA will charge a $75.00 Auditable Document Replacement Fee for each certificate needing
replacement. As per TSBDE Rule 104.5~Auditable Documentation: Each licensee shall maintain in his/her possession auditable documentation of continuing education hours completed for a minimum of three years .
Please be on time. Attendees must be present for the entire course for full credit.

Confirmation of course registration will not be sent. Registrants will only be notified if the course is sold out or cancelled.
Refunds/Cancellation: Written refund requests must be received at least 7 days prior to the presentation, a $15 processing fee will apply. GFWDHA reserves the right to cancel this program if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.
