Principals & Parents Collaborate at Parent Leadership Academy

Yesterday, hundreds of parents and administrators filled the Community Center for a wonderful day of learning and collaboration at GGUSD’s Parent Leadership Academy! Parents and school administrators from every campus came together to explore how we can help students build the scholarly habits that support success.

Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi and our amazing AVID TOSAs shared practical strategies families can use at home, from organizing backpacks and reviewing notes to encouraging daily reading, regular study, and preparation over time. Principals shared how teachers and staff are equipping students with AVID strategies to help them succeed in school.

Thank you to everyone who shared ideas and strengthened the partnership between home and school. Thank you to Board President Bob Harden who attended to show his support. Together, we’re helping students become confident, capable learners!

GGUSD prioritizes Visual and Performing Arts and is proud to have earned the 2026 Best Communities for Music Education Award, marking the eighth consecutive year the district has received this honor. Congratulations to our student musicians and the teachers, staff and families who inspire them to shine!

Simmons Elementary Shines Bright with Special Beautification Project

Simmons Elementary School’s playground has a colorful new look! Volunteers from the Safran Cabin Give & Grow organization joined forces with Simmons parents recently for a one-day campus beautification project, creating brighter, more inviting spaces for students to learn, play and connect.

The transformation included playful dolphin murals in the kindergarten yard, six ocean-themed murals on the handball courts, five new benches, refreshed playground and basketball court areas, and two new pickleball courts. Simmons students and staff are already enjoying their revitalized campus.

Give & Grow was founded by Safran Cabin employees to enhance local schools through one-day “extreme makeovers” that improve grounds and buildings, supporting student learning and growth. Projects are entirely volunteer-driven, with planning, preparation, and execution carried out by Safran employees and their families. Thank you to Safran Cabin Give & Grow and everyone who volunteered to make this special project possible!

Violette Students Receive New Books on PJ Day

Violette Elementary was recently chosen to be a part of the Books Are Fun Book Blast, a fundraising program that guarantees every student receives an age-appropriate book with no financial requirement to participate! The whole school celebrated the completion of the program by having a pajama party in their classrooms and opening packages of books!
