Great Hearts Irving Announcements
Academy Giving: Floresco

The Floresco Committee is looking for creative artwork! The 2020 invitation will be designed by a GHI student. One design will be chosen, and all other entries will be displayed at Floresco. See here for the entry requirements and other Academy Giving News.
Athletics: Basketball Tryouts

Basketball tryouts will be held on Wednesday, October 23 and Wednesday, October 30 from 4:15-5:45 p.m. at Drive Nation. Tryouts are for all grades, both boys and girls. It is not necessary to attend both tryout times, but it is strongly encouraged. Parents with playing or coaching backgrounds are also requested to attend or contact GHI Director of Athletics Gary Gray at

Lower School Announcements
Window into Wonder Tours

Lower School families are invited to join the Headmaster for one of many Window into Wonder Tours, where we will spend time exploring the rich instruction your children experience every day. Click here to register.
Drop-Off Procedures

Morning drop-off is from 7:15 to 7:40 a.m. If you arrive during this time, you will need to use the appropriate carline to drop off your students. Only if you enter the parking lot after carline has ended at 7:40, should you then park and walk your student to the front door. During this time, please do not turn right off of Belt Line into the front parking lot. The traffic is one way moving from east to west.
Storybook Festival

On October 25, the Lower School will host the first ever Storybook Festival . Visit the website for event details and our carefully-curated Amazon Wish List full of beautiful children’s literature.
Coffee with the Headmaster

Fourth grade parents are invited to our Coffee with the Lower School Headmaster on October 28 from 8:00-8:45 a.m. Please sign in at the front desk.
Picture Retakes

On November 1, Lifetouch will be on campus for any picture retakes. Students who were absent on September 10, students new to the school since September 10, or anyone not 100 percent satisfied with a purchased package is welcome to have their picture retaken.
Prairie Lights Sneak a Peak

On Saturday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m., a team of Great Hearts faculty will be participating in this three mile walk/run. You are invited to form your own team and participate alongside our faculty or come and cheer them on. Click here for more information.
Quarter Two Clubs

The Lower School's Quarter One clubs came to an end on October 21. They have been a resounding success. Click here to register for Quarter Two clubs which will begin next Monday, October 28 and meet on 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 12/2, and 12/9.
Club Pick-up

Students should be picked up from clubs at the east (Green Carline) entrance. Please park and walk up to the east steps to pick up your student. Please remember to bring your visor and drive with caution. There are no traffic directors on duty at this time.

Window into Wonder Tours

GHI Upper School families are invited to join the Headmaster for the next Window into Wonder Tour on  November 5 at 1:30-2:10 p.m., where we will spend time visiting classes and observing the rich offerings available to your scholars. Please click  here for more information.

Coffee with the Headmaster

Please join the Upper School Headmaster for coffee and an informal conversation about our mission at Great Hearts Irving. Sixth grade parents are invited on November 6 and seventh grade parents on November 20 at 8:00-8:50 a.m. To sign up, please click  here.
Picture Retakes

Upper School picture retakes will take place Thursday, October 31. If your student missed picture day or would like a retake, please have them pick up a form at the front desk. The form goes directly to LifeTouch during pictures on 10/31. 
Attendance Reminders

GHI receives daily funding for all students who are in their classrooms at 9:05 a.m. We encourage parents to schedule doctor appointments before or after that time. Please bring a doctor's note for all appointments. Also, remember to relay any planned absences to your student's teacher. For all other questions or concerns related to absences (that cannot be addressed by your teacher directly), send an email directly to Email all absence notifications to this address as well. Calling the attendance line is not necessary. Please turn in all sick or doctor notes within two days of the absence. Written documentation must be provided for all days your student is absent from school. Acceptable forms of written documentation include email, handwritten letter, or doctor's note.
Event Calendar

Please click here for a calendar of Upper School events for the year. While there will be additions throughout the year, parents may find a quick reference sheet of these dates to be helpful for planning purposes. Note that unforeseen circumstances can require changes in dates. Times of events will be released via the newsletter as the events draw nearer.
Rugby Fitness Information Meeting

An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, October 24 from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. for any student interested in playing rugby or in improved fitness for sports performance. Any student is welcome to attend. If you have any questions please contact James Bascom at
Homecoming Week

Many thanks to Ms. Ester Perez, who provided Homecoming stickers at school on Friday! Also, thank you to all parents who helped decorate and plan Homecoming Week. It was a huge success, and the dance was most excellent. Kudos to the Homecoming committee and our event coordinator Ms. Keo Strull. We had a lovely time beneath the Stars in the Sky.
Acculturation Week II

This week, we’ve been reflecting on the virtue of temperance as we look forward to a great-hearted second quarter. Thursday, senators will be leading their Housemates in a seminar. On Friday, students are invited to wear their house shirts or spirit shirts to school with uniform everything else. We will be gathering on Friday to compete as Houses during this quarter’s Acculturation Challenge!
