Upcoming Meeting and Opportunities

Welcome to the GLOBE International STEM Network (GISN) Newsletter! The GISN is a network of professionals with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and more, who promote Earth science education around the world. The goal of this newsletter is to share news, research highlights, and upcoming GLOBE events that pertain to GISN members.

Provide Feedback on GISN by 31 December 2024

GISN is evolving! Please take a moment to fill out this short feedback form, so the network can better meet your professional needs.

Comment on the GLOBE Protocol Solicitation Draft

The NASA GLOBE Program Office will be soliciting proposals to develop new GLOBE measurement protocols and modify existing protocols. Comments are requested on the current solicitation release by 31 December 2024. Comments and suggestions will inform the final solicitation.

Become a 2025 IVSS Judge

We are looking for judges for the 2025 International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS). The 2025 theme is “30 Years of GLOBE: Understanding the Past, Present and Future." Students are encouraged to pair their own data with data from GLOBE’s open-source database to consider what environmental changes are emerging.

Becoming an IVSS judge is great way to participate and support student-led GLOBE research. It is an opportunity to provide direct feedback to aspiring learners and future STEM professionals.

If you are interested in being a judge, visit the Judge Resources and Guidelines webpage to learn more. Fill out the Volunteer Judge Sign-Up form by 31 December to sign up.

If you have any questions regarding the 2025 IVSS, please email the IVSS team at ivss@nasaglobe.org.

Call for Presentations

The Conference for Advancing Participatory Studies is encouraging GISN members to share their insights and research with participatory sciences for the upcoming meeting in Portland, Oregon, United States. Submit an abstract for a talk or poster before 15 January 2025 to be considered for selection.

GISN Member Spotlight: Dr. Marie Korsaga

Dr. Marie Korsaga is a new GISN member who joined last month. Korsaga is from Burkina Faso and is the first woman to hold a PhD in Astrophysics in West Africa . She researches the distribution of dark and visible matter in galaxies to better understand the formation and evolution of galaxies and the Universe as a whole. Korsaga joined GISN to connect and collaborate with people from different backgrounds across the entire GLOBE community. She is dedicated to promoting STEM education and gender equality and tackling global challenges. Korsaga hopes to share her expertise in collecting and analyzing multi-wavelength observational data with GLOBE students and teachers while breaking down barriers surrounding women in science.

++++

“Through GLOBE, I aim to promote policies that advance gender equality in STEM and to help create an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives drive scientific advancement and enhance our understanding of the world around us.”  —Dr. Marie Korsaga
