WELCOME BACK CENTRAL STUDENTS & FAMILIES!
We are so excited to return to in-person programming and offer amazing events and activities for Glencoe students and families. While GJHP will be revamping our social and community engagement offerings, be on the lookout for the return of popular events such as Skate Night, Beach Bash, and the 6th Grade Social, and more recent activities like Cookie Decorating, the Fun Run and more!
 
In-person events with Central School are expected to begin after October 4 and will be presented under COVID protocols set by District 35.

GJHP'S NEW SENIOR PROGRAM DIRECTOR!
Introducing Michelle Rosenthal

A native Highland Parker, Michelle has lived on the North Shore for most of her life as a student and now as a parent of five. She feels fortunate as Senior Program Director to work in such a wonderful community and is excited to partner with our students, parents, and local businesses in a variety of service projects throughout the year. 
 
With an MS in Education from Northwestern, Michelle brings a wide range of teaching and non-profit experience. She has taught in Chicago Public Schools and the suburbs and holds an endorsement in language arts and social studies. Most recently, she has worked in Special Education and ELL settings. Michelle is thrilled to be part of GJHP where the creativity, generosity and passion of the students make a difference.

MUSICALS ARE FINALLY BACK!
THE EIGHTH GRADE PROJECT 2021:
MAKE A MUSICAL!
INFORMATIONAL ZOOM: Sept 14 at 6pm
DATES: October 18 – December 10, 2021
REHEARSALS: Mon, Wed & Thurs, 3:30-5:30
PERFORMANCE FORMAT TBD!
FEE: $325 (Scholarships Available)

The Eighth Grade Project is exclusively for 8th graders and provides an opportunity for them to be heavily involved in all creative and technical aspects of a show with Director Samara Harand. This year, students will help pick, produce and perform a 60-minute musical.

The GJHP Musical returns with the hit musical Footloose! This NO-CUT program is open to all 6th-8th graders!

RIDE IN THE NORTH SHORE CENTURY FOR OVER THE RAINBOW

Starting Location: Canal Shores Golf Club, Evanston
Day & Time: Sunday, September 19 at 9:00am
Participation Fee: $30 (child), $60 (adult)
Riders 17 & under must be accompanied by a registered adult rider.

CHEERING SECTION
Rest Stop Location: Glencoe Metra Station
Day & Time: Sunday, September 19, 8am-2pm (two-hour shifts: 8am-10am, 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm)

Looking for a fun event for the family and enjoy bike riding? Join team GJHP as we ride 25 miles in the North Shore Century to support Over the Rainbow, an Evanston non-profit that provides affordable housing for adults with disabilities to live independently. Unavailable to ride? Join us at the Glencoe Metra to cheer on riders as they pass by! We are looking to fill three two-hour cheering shifts: 8-10am, 10am-12pm and 12-2pm. Sign up HERE.

THE GREAT MUD RUN 2021
Saturday, October 2 at 9:00 AM
Participation Fee: $30

Ready to get muddy?! The Mud Run is back!

The Great Mud Run is a 1.25 mile race through Watts Park, with 10-12 natural and man-made obstacles throughout the course, challenging your drive and physical stamina. Participants receive a finisher medal and bragging rights.

This local favorite is presented by the Glencoe Park District and is open to ages 7-14.

STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD 2021-22
Open to 5th-8th Graders!
Bored? Then join the Board!
GJHP is looking for 10 dedicated, enthusiastic students to serve as advisory board members. Help determine what organizations we partner with, design engaging outreach activities, and run super cool events for Glencoe middle school students! There is no campaigning, just step up for a chance to lead and make a difference in our community.

The Student Advisory Board will meet in The Oasis on the first Friday of each month before school. First Meeting: Friday, October 1 at 7:30am.

SEPTEMBER S.N.A.P. DINNER

Throughout the year, GJHP will help prepare or provide meals for the Special Needs Adults Program (SNAP) at Glencoe Youth Services.

FALL BOOK BUDDIES
Tuesdays or Wednesdays, Oct 12-Dec 8

Registration Fee: $20

GJHP's Book Buddies pairs Big Buddies (Grades 5-8) with Little Buddies (K-2) to read after school at the Glencoe Library.

Tuesdays at 4pm (October 12, 19 & 26, November 2, 9, 16 & 30, and December 7)

Wednesdays at 4pm (October 13, 20 & 27, November 3, 10, & 17 and December 1 & 8)

A Fall Big Buddy Training Session will be held on Wednesday, October 6 at 4pm in The Oasis.

GJHP MISSION STATEMENT
The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP) is a parent-led, non-profit organization that has sought to engage Glencoe middle school students into the community since 1973. In order to carry out our mission of fostering socially aware, civic-minded and community-oriented individuals, we offer Glencoe 5th-8th grade students opportunities to volunteer in their community, attend social activities and events, perform on stage, as well as access to a youth drop-in center in Glencoe's Central School.
