February 2021
Kansas City's PR & Communications Resource
A Letter from the President
There is nothing I can say about 2020 that hasn’t already been said, meme’d, gif’d, or TikTok’d. It was a year unlike any other, and one that we will never forget. As president of the Greater Kansas City PRSA chapter, I wish I would have done more and engaged the chapter and board better. But, the time of excuse making and “what if’s” is over.

I’m going to take the lessons I learned in 2020 and use them, not as crutches, but as springboards to move forward into 2021. We have an incredible board this year, filled with hard-working, experienced professionals. Some names and faces you may recognize, and others you may not. We’re committed as a board this year to engage our members in meaningful ways and to make 2021 a memorable year, for all the right reasons.

First, we’ll be bringing you some fantastic programming this year, starting with the celebration of Black History Month with PRSA National Chair-elect, Felicia Blow. If you haven’t registered for that event yet, you can do so here. Be on the lookout for news about the Inez Kaiser Scholarship we announced at the PRISMS last year and more professional development events in the coming weeks!

Second, our chapter is hosting the PRSA Midwest District Conference this fall. This opportunity will allow us to showcase Kansas City and all of the amazing PR talent we have here in the City. If you’re interested in being a part of the planning committee, please contact me directly at alex@parsonkc.com.

Thank you for your continued support of the GKC-PRSA chapter, and we look forward to what will be an incredible year at PRSA!

Join us virtually on Tuesday, Feb. 23 from noon-1 p.m. as we celebrate Black History Month and welcome distinguished guest speaker Felicia Blow, APR and PRSA National Chair-elect.

During this free webinar, Blow will talk about how to lead with diversity and inclusion strategic planning.

Blow is an award-winning leader with a 28-year career spanning work in manufacturing, waste management and environmental services, telecommunications, and higher education.

2021 Inez Kaiser Scholarship Committee Update
“Believe, Conceive, Achieve”
The Inez Kaiser Scholarship Committee is dedicated to offering $10,000 in college scholarships this year, but it needs your help.

The group is forming a fundraising committee to help raise money for the scholarships. Please contact Lea-Ann Germinder at lgerminder@germinder.com if interested.

Inez was the first Black woman to join PRSA in 1966, and she has a deep history here in the Kansas City region.
