Dear Green Lake Crew Parents,
Seattle Parks and Recreation requires all sports organizations operating on their properties to conduct an annual safety drill. As part of this yearly requirement, we will be holding our scheduled safety drill—specifically a lockdown drill—to ensure the continued preparedness of our athletes and coaching staff in the event of an emergency.
While we all hope to never face a situation that requires such a response, prioritizing the safety and well-being of our rowers remains our top concern. These annual drills are designed to keep our athletes, coaches, and staff all ready to act quickly and calmly, reinforcing the emergency procedures that coaches are trained to execute.
The trigger phrase for our coaches to initiate the lockdown drill will be "Code Turtle." When a coach announces "Code Turtle" during practice, all athletes will immediately stop what they are doing and follow the coaches' instructions to move to a designated secure location.
Additionally, as part of our commitment to athlete well-being, we will be hosting SafeSport discussions tailored for our junior athletes. We will cover these procedures and SafeSport topics in a positive, non-alarming way to ensure everyone understands what to watch out for and how to report.
We will be conducting the drill and holding SafeSport discussions next week. If you have any questions about these protocols or the upcoming SafeSport sessions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the office staff or your child's head coach.
