WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Why is GLC so involved in work dealing with food? Here at GLC, a lot of our ministries pertain to making sure people have food: providing meals at Lazarus House; bringing food to people’s houses when they are sick or grieving or isolated; packing food at St Andrew and Northern Illinois Food Bank. We do this work because we recognize that the mission of the church is not just to help people’s spirits – we must also help people’s bodies. Food actually tends to both, giving people a sense of being cared for and thought of in spirit and feeling refreshed and energized in body. Through food, we receive what we need to live and thrive. That is why we invest ourselves in this work to feed and care for one another.
SPRING AHEAD THIS WEEKEND
It's that time again! Make sure to turn your clocks forward Sunday, March 14 at 2:00 am. You don't want to miss 9:00 am in-person or livestream worship. Although, you can always watch the recorded service later on YouTube if you oversleep!
SUNDAY WORSHIP
In-person Sunday worship
We are welcoming up to 30 people for our 9:00 am Sunday worship service. Please arrive for worship by 8:55 am. There is no pre-registration, but masks, health self-certification, and physical distancing are still required.
Vicar Amber's Message
“Between you and us a great chasm has been fixed... and no one can cross from there to us.” Just a few weeks ago, we talked about how God desires for love to be the thing that connects us to one another. Love is meant to show through in our actions and interactions and to breathe into our perception of others. Yet, in the story that we have for this Sunday, the story of Lazarus and the rich man, we find not love, but neglect. Not connection, but chasms. The dividing walls stand high between poor man Lazarus and the rich man sumptuously feasting, and they remain in our world today. In our lives, do we find that we are narrowing the gap, or participating in its widening?

Compassionate God, you know the fears, doubts, and suspicions that tempt us to live like the rich man. Save us from this temptation, and lead us in the way of your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Generous Life beyond our community! GLC sent a check for just over $19,000 to the Metro Chicago Synod of the ELCA (one of the 65 geographic synods of the ELCA) which represents 10% of our offerings for this quarter of the budget year. Through this gift we support new missions in our Synod and around the world. Thank you for your generous support!
The needs continue at Lazarus House
Lazarus House relies on volunteers 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. They are in need of help! Please visit their website to see if there is a place that you could plug in to help. Lazarus House
