GLOBE 2022 Annual Meeting Banner

Registration Is Now Open! 


The 2022 Annual Meeting will take place (virtually) from 25-28 July. The theme is “Communicating GLOBE in Changing Times.” During the four-day event, the community will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of sessions. Early-bird registration runs through 17 June!

GLOBE Thanks 2022 Spring Tree Height and Land Cover IOP (22 April-22 May) Participants

 

The Intensive Observation Period (IOP) received 2,564 tree height observations from 983 locations in 26 GLOBE countries, and 405 land cover observations from 215 locations in 16 GLOBE countries.

GLOBE Thanks March 2022 Urban Heat Island IOP Participants

 

GLOBE completed another great month of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) IOP in March 2022. In all, 107 schools participated, and 1,699 observations were contributed throughout the month.

Help GLOBE “Match to a Million”

 

Cloud observations submitted to GLOBE, and to the program’s app, GLOBE Observer, are matched to satellite data. GLOBE is approaching one million satellite matches, and needs your help to ensure this goal is reached by the time the Annual Meeting takes place in July.

GLOBE Land Cover Challenge 2022: Land Cover in a Changing Climate Begins in July

 

GLOBE invites you to take photos of the landscape around you using The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer, and add your comments about changes. The challenge runs from 26 July through 26 August. Your on-the-ground knowledge and input is vital!

Join the Spare Tire Blitz

 

The GLOBE Mission Mosquito “Spare Tire Blitz,” which began in March, will continue through June. Participants can document mosquito tire habitat by submitting a photo using The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer (GO), Mosquito Habitat Mapper (MHM) tool.

In a recent blog, Dr. Rusty Low discussed the Spare Tire Blitz, “During the blitz, scientists are asking for your Mosquito Habitat Mapper observations. With this information, scientists will be able to document where female mosquitoes are using spare or discarded tires as breeding sites.”

New Cohort Has Received their First Assignment!

 

The new cohort of GLOBE Student Vloggers (GSVs) met this past month to receive their first assignment – and to receive training in “best practices” for the vlog format. Their first vlog episodes will be available this summer. Starting 01 June, viewers can watch their introduction videos on GIO’s YouTube Channel.

U.S. GLOBE Students: NASA Spotlite Video Challenge: Cloud Detectives – Videos Due 31 July

 

NASA wants students to produce a video for the NASA eClips™ website. Teams will produce a short video confronting one of two misconceptions related to clouds by investigating and collecting evidence, including GLOBE Clouds and NASA data. Learners in formal and non-formal education settings can become content creators and inspire others to engage in science. All steps of creating a Spotlite video can be accomplished using cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
