Join the GLOBE Earth Day Air Temperature Data Challenge on 25 March: Collect, Visualize, Connect!

 

In celebration of The GLOBE Program’s 27th Anniversary on Earth Day (22 April), the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) is inviting GLOBE students to participate in an Air Temperature (AT) Data Challenge on Friday, 25 March.

 

The challenge is to collect air temperature data measurements worldwide on the same day and at the same time of day (depending on where you live); to visualize the AT data via graphs or drawings; and to connect with the worldwide GLOBE community.

GLOBE Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE)-Surface Temperature IOP Begins Today

 

The March Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE)-Surface Temperature Intensive Observation Period (IOP) has begun. The IOP will focus on looking at the impact urbanization has on the Earth’s surface temperature, and how surface temperature changes the dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere.

The Cloud Challenge badge

NASA GLOBE Cloud Challenge Exceeds Expectations: Badge and Certificates Now Available

 

GLOBE would like to thank everyone who participated in the NASA GLOBE Cloud Challenge 2022. Certificates of Participation and digital badges are available for download!

 

Observations tallied in at over 42,000 (from 89 countries and seven continents), with 108,214 photos added to the GLOBE database. Cloud Challenge participants surpassed the satellite match goal set at the beginning of the challenge (which was 20,000 matches) with nearly 50,000 satellite matches. The challenge also incorporated NASA GLOBE CLOUD GAZE, through which participants made over 300,000 classifications.

Join the Trees Campaign Collaborative Spring 2022 Intensive Observation Period: 22 April-22 May (Kick-Off Webinar: 06 April)

 

The Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign, GLOBE European Phenology Campaign, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre (coordinator of GLOBE Poland), and UHIE, be hosting a Spring 2022 GLOBE Tree Height and Land Cover IOP from 22 April through 22 May 2022.

Educators: One-Week GLOBE “Pacing Guides” Now Available

 

Are you interested in working with GLOBE, but not sure where to start? Assistance is here! NASA has worked with experienced GLOBE teachers to put together new one-week “Pacing Guides.”

 

Each guide provides a five-day sequence of activities that address a guiding question. They are aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and incorporate information on how to engage in science observations with GLOBE. Each guide also includes an activity from My NASA Data using real satellite data.

U.S. GLOBE Sophomores/Juniors: 2022 Summer Internship Opportunity in STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) Program – Applications Due 15 March


The United States GLOBE program is accepting applications for a GLOBE intern at the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) 2022 Summer High School Intern Program. This opportunity is open to U.S. GLOBE high school Sophomores and Juniors. Applications are due 15 March 2022. Selected interns will learn how to interpret NASA satellite data and work with scientists and engineers.

NEW THIS YEAR: Selected GLOBE Student Eligible for Stipend

 

The GLOBE student selected for the SEES internship will be eligible to receive a $1,000 stipend upon completion of the internship, submission of a written report explaining their research, and a recorded interview on their experience (which will be used by The GLOBE Program). The stipend is provided through support from YLACES.

U.S. GLOBE Students: NASA Spotlite Video Challenge: Cloud Detectives – Videos Due 25 March 



NASA wants students to produce a video for the NASA eClips™ website. Videos must be submitted by 25 March. Teams will produce a short video confronting one of two misconceptions related to clouds by investigating and collecting evidence, including GLOBE Clouds and NASA data. Learners in formal and non-formal education settings can become content creators and inspire others to engage in science. All steps of creating a Spotlite video can be accomplished using cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
