Congratulations to 2022 IVSS Projects Selected During 2022 Earth Day Drawing

 

This year, 74 projects from 19 countries qualified for the Earth Day stipend drawing (each project earned a four-star student research badge – the highest ranking possible – and at least two other optional badges). Congratulations!

2022 IVSS: A Scientific and Engineering Success

 

The GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) received 220 student project submissions for the 2022 International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) from 97 schools in 25 countries. Projects were submitted in five languages: Arabic, Croatian, English, Portuguese, and Spanish. In all,160 judges from 36 countries, including GLOBE International STEM Network (GISN) members, helped score the projects and provide feedback. Thanks to everyone for another IVSS success story!

GLOBE Countries Help Celebrate World Water Day (WWD)

 

GIO encouraged community members to share their WWD (22 March) activities. The “call” was answered by community members in the Asia and Pacific Region, the Europe and Eurasia Region, and the Latin America and Caribbean Region.

2022 NSF “STEM for All Video Showcase” Takes Place 10-17 May – View, Discuss, Vote! 

 

GIO, and many GLOBE partners, submit videos to the annual National Science Foundation (NSF) video showcase. This year, GIO’s entry consists of an introduction to the GLOBE Student Vloggers. (The link will be available once the event opens on 10 May.) Vote for your favorite presentations for the “Public Choice” award.

Spring 2022 IOP Continues through 22 May 

 

The Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign, GLOBE European Phenology Campaign, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre (coordinator of GLOBE Poland), and the Urban Heat Island Effect - Surface Temperature Campaign invite you to participate in the Spring 2022 GLOBE Tree Height and Land Cover Intensive Observation Period (IOP), which began 22 April and continues through 22 May. Everyone, from students to educators to citizen scientists, can participate in the IOP.

Join the Spare Tire Blitz

 

The GLOBE Mission Mosquito “Spare Tire Blitz,” which began in March, will continue through June. Participants can document mosquito tire habitat by submitting a photo using The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer (GO), Mosquito Habitat Mapper (MHM) tool.

Join 19 May GLOBE Mission Mosquito Webinar

 

Join the GMM team on Thursday, 19 May, at 02:00 p.m. EDT (06:00 p.m. UTC) as Dr. Rusty Low (Institute for Global Environmental Studies) and Dr. Rodrigo Arantes Reis (University of Parna, Brazil) discuss the work they are doing with the “Zika Bus.” Participants will learn how to use NASA Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission data in mosquito projects.

“Thank You” to 2021/2022 GSVs; “Welcome” to 2022/2023 GSVs 

 

As part of the 2022 Earth Day celebrations, GLOBE said “Thank You” to the 2021/2022 cohort of GLOBE Student Vloggers (GSVs). During the year, these GLOBE students shared about themselves, their local environments, their culture, and their love for GLOBE. They were asked to reflect on their experiences, and a video was created from these reflections. On 22 April, GLOBE also welcomed the 2022/2023 GSVs in a debut video. GLOBE would like to extend our congratulations to the selected students.

The NASA STEM Educator Professional Development Collaborative (EPDC) is presenting a series of webinars open to all educators. All pre-service, K-12, and informal educators, as well as university faculty, are invited to join NASA education specialists to learn about NASA missions, activities, lesson plans, educator guides, and online resources that integrate NASA and STEM into the classroom.

NASA Seeks STEM Teachers to Help Develop/Test Science Curriculum (Grades 05-12)


NASA Heliophysics Education Activation Team (HEAT) is seeking highly motivated, creative STEM teachers to help develop and test science curriculum designed to use NASA resources for teaching systems science. (Systems Science is an interdisciplinary field that studies the complexity of systems in nature.) Receive $2,500 stipend, plus NASA resources for the classroom, for participating in 52 hours of virtual workshop time and pilot-testing co-developed lessons in the classroom!

U.S. GLOBE Students: NASA Spotlite Video Challenge: Cloud Detectives – Videos Due 31 July

 

NASA wants students to produce a video for the NASA eClips™ website. Videos must be submitted by 31 July. Teams will produce a short video confronting one of two misconceptions related to clouds by investigating and collecting evidence, including GLOBE Clouds and NASA data. Learners in formal and non-formal education settings can become content creators and inspire others to engage in science. All steps of creating a Spotlite video can be accomplished using cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
