GLOBE Summer Email,

(in case you missed this email earlier in July... and we have some updates)
Dear GLOBE Community, 

We are looking forward to seeing you soon for the start of our new school year — a school year that we hope will be much more normal than the last!

We will be back to in-person learning, five days a week, starting Wednesday, August 4th. (The full calendar can be viewed here.) Virtual learning will not be an option, but as I mentioned previously, we are working closely with Emory to stay on top of the latest Covid data and ensure that we are following the most appropriate protocols to keep our community safe and healthy. We will be wearing masks until everyone has had the chance to be vaccinated. Please stay tuned to communications coming out from our partnership with Emory as we get closer to the start of school.

A couple other notes:
  • The Extended Care Program is back. It will be operating before and after school every day. For more information please see below.
  • After-school enrichment activities will return this year, with programming such as Chess and Dance. More information will be available at Orientation on August 2nd.

I also want to thank you for being our partner in educating your children. Your engagement is crucial to our success as a school, and we look forward to making GLOBE's ninth year our best yet. A few updates on that:
  • We are currently reviewing the feedback we received in our parent survey, using it to inform our plans for the months and year ahead. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
  • We are getting back on track with our strategic plan, while also preparing for our upcoming charter renewal with the State of Georgia and the DeKalb County School District. As always, you can find more details about this, or attend meetings, via the Board page on our website.

I hope you continue to enjoy your summer, and I'll look forward to seeing your faces in person soon!

Orientation and First Day of School

Orientation: Monday, August 2, 8:00-11:00AM (last name beginning A-N) & 12:00-3:00PM (last name beginning O-Z)
Orientation is drop-in style. Come when you can during the designated times according to your last name.

First Day of School: Wednesday, August 4th (yes, this date is different from the rest of DeKalb).
Start times: LC 8:10AM
UC 8:00AM

Prior to Orientation, each student will need to complete the re-enrollment process for the 2021-2022 school year by accessing Infinite Campus and completing the Enrollease online form.

Orientation Day Details
Monday, August 2, 8:00-11:00AM (last name beginning A-N) &
12:00-3:00PM (last name beginning O-Z)

Orientation is for:
  • Meeting teachers and learn homeroom placement
  • Visiting your campus and classrooms
  • Connect with PTCC (Parent Teacher Community Council)
  • Drop off school supplies
  • Sign "Acceptable Use" Forms
  • Meet with our nurses and drop off Health Planning Forms if needed
  • Register for ECP and/or Enrichments
  • Shop Used Uniforms (read about our dress code here)
  • Shop Spirit wear
  • Give to the Annual Fund
  • Milestones score reports will be available for pickup at UPPER CAMPUS. Any reports not picked up during Open House will be sent home in the first Thursday folder.

Orientation is drop in style. Come anytime that works for your family during the designated timeframe for your last name. *Note, the doors will be closed between 11:00AM-12:00PM for faculty and staff lunch.

Chromebook Insurance

Chromebooks will be issued to all students in grades 4-8 during the first two weeks of school.

Parents are required to purchase Chromebook insurance for each device issued. Insurance will cover most issues that occur with the Chromebook during the year, including accidental damage, cracked screen, liquid submersion, fire, flood, loss, and theft. There is an option to purchase additional insurance to cover the power cord and charging block. Chromebooks will not be issued until insurance has been secured. Once insurance has been verified, students in grades 6-8 will be permitted (but not required) to take their Chromebooks home overnight and on the weekends. These students will be required to bring their devices to school fully charged, every day. Students in grades 4 & 5 will only be permitted to take their Chromebooks home in the case of quarantine or other, prolonged (and approved) absence. 

For Lower Campus students, Chromebooks (grades 2 & 3) and iPads (grades K & 1) will only be issued to individual students in the case of quarantine or other, prolonged (and approved) absence. Parents of Lower Campus students are NOT required to purchase insurance at this time.

ALL GLOBE students will be required to complete and return an Acceptable Use form before they will be permitted to use school-issued devices. Forms will be available during Orientation.

School Nutrition

Students are welcome to bring in lunch from home or participate in the school’s lunch program. GLOBE Academy is participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. For next school year only, all school provided lunches are free to anyone who requests a lunch. Stay tuned for more information on how to apply or email nutrition@theglobeacademy.net.
Admissions

Change of plans? GLOBE would like to account for our enrollment numbers for next year. Due to DeKalb's budget cuts, it is more important than ever that we have an accurate student count. Complete the google form below if your child will not return for the 2021-2022 school year. *Note, this does not apply to graduated 8th graders.


Please know, it is OKAY if your family's plans have changed! Your family needs to do what is best for your student. If you already know you will not be returning, complete the survey as soon as possible. If at any time in the coming weeks and months you learn you will not return to GLOBE for the 2021-2022 school year, contact megan.brown@theglobeacademy.net

SPORTS
2021-2022 Sports Physical Form

Attention Parents of Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders,

The GLOBE Athletics Department is excited to announce that sports will resume when we return for the 2021-2022 school year. We will begin with our Fall Sports - Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball. In order for any student to participate in any sport over the course of the school year, they must have an updated Physical Examination form on file prior to tryouts on 8/16/2021.

(*Physical Forms are valid for a full calendar year after the date signed. For example, if you have the physical done in July 2021 it will last through July 2022, and therefore will be valid for any Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports.)

ECP (Extended Care Program)
ECP Program update for the 2021-2022 school year. 

Families can now register for before care. Drop off beginning at 7:00 am and your student will be dismissed to class at 7:30.     

Aftercare registration is also open. Students are dismissed to our care at the end of the school day and final pick up is at 6PM.     

We are planning to have enrichment classes as well this fall. Details regarding enrichments are in the works.  When we have the program details available, we will update the school’s website. There will also be vendors present and information available at Orientation.

The 2021-2022 Carpool Connector is now active.

 Complete this form if you would like to advertise for a carpool buddy in the fall. You can also view results here to see if someone matches your needs. Remember that this list will continue to grow over the summer.
Carpool tags
Upon initial enrollment, students receive two free carpool tags. Newly enrolled students for 2021-2022 will be able to pick up their carpool tag at the front office.

Returning students: same carpool numbers will be used. Re-use your tag from the previous year.

The cost of replacement tags is $3 for one, or $5 for two. Payment can ONLY be made by check or money order.
