Important Announcement About Milestones Testing
ALL Students (K-8):
There will be NO live classes during testing (LC - AM only for Grade 3 testing days; UC - all testing days). Please check weekly newsletters from teachers for more information about class schedules on test days.

Grade 3:
Please look for specific communication from Ms. Blunt and Ms. Catinella regarding school assignments and instruction on testing days.

Grades 4-8:
Chromebooks will be locked in testing mode beginning Friday afternoon, April 16. Please make sure to come by The GLOBE Academy Upper Campus on Friday, April 16 OR Monday, April 19 between 8 AM and 2 PM to pick up student assignments.
Chromebooks will be unlocked by grade level as testing concludes.

If your student IS testing…
  • Attend school each day of testing
  • Arrive ON TIME (by 8 AM)
  • Grade 3 ONLY: See communication from Ms. Blunt and Ms. Catinella regarding Chromebooks for testing.
  • Grades 4-8: Bring Chromebook AND charger to school on the last day of regular classes before testing (Friday for Th/F students, Monday for M/T students; fully virtual students can bring their Chromebook and charger with them on the first day of testing) - Chromebooks will STAY at school until testing is complete
  • Bring a book to read AND something to color with for the time between the completion of daily testing and pick up/resumption of the school day

Testing will conclude by 10:30 AM each day (4/20, 4/22, 4/23, 4/26, and 4/27) and by 10 AM each day (4/29, 4/30, 5/4, and 5/6). If it is not your assigned day to be at school, students must be picked up in the carpool line PROMPTLY at the conclusion of testing.

If your student is NOT testing…
  • Remain at home on testing mornings. **There is LIMITED SPACE to supervise non-testing students during testing. If your student is scheduled to be in-person and staying home is a hardship for your family, please contact Ms. Catinella (LC) or Mrs. Limor (UC) to discuss options.
  • STRONGLY ENCOURAGED - Arrive at school in the carpool line at the conclusion of testing on your assigned days. Testing will conclude by 10:30 AM each day (4/20, 4/22, 4/23, 4/26, and 4/27) and by 10:00 AM each day (4/29, 4/30, 5/4, and 5/6).

Continuing Our Efforts Against the Spread of COVID-19

Thank you to all of our parents and staff for your vigilance in keeping GLOBE's COVID policies and procedures and for your support as we work to create the safest on-campus environment as possible. We announced this morning that on May 3, 2021, K-5 students currently attending school face-to-face 2 days per week will transition to attending 4 days per week (M,Tu, Th, F). And though community transmission has leveled off, it remains incredibly important to stay vigilant: keep wearing those masks over your mouth and nose, wash your hands well, and keep your distance from those who aren't in your usual pod.

We will continue to track the DeKalb data on the GLOBE COVID-19 Data Dashboard and continue to add information about the number of cases reported weekly at LC and UC separately. Student and staff privacy is of utmost importance – the school nurses are strictly following the COVID-19 reporting and contact tracing guidelines and identifying information about those who test positive will not be available.

FYI: Georgia has opened COVID-19 vaccination to everyone aged 16 years and older. You can utilize the Georgia Department of Public Health's website to find vaccination locations or schedule an appointment. Widespread vaccination will be key to reducing transmission in our community; if you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccines, you can find answers to common questions here.

What to do if you or your child have tested positive or had close contact with someone who is positive:

Please contact the appropriate school nurse, Lindsay Reese (Lower Campus) or Cherrie Robinson (Upper Campus), immediately.

If your child is exhibiting any of the symptoms below, please keep them at home and notify the appropriate school nurse, Lindsay Reese (Lower Campus) or Cherrie Robinson (Upper Campus), immediately:
  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

*If your child is out sick for any reason, please notify the appropriate school nurse and your child’s teacher.
GENERAL UPDATES
Clinic

In these days of Covid-awareness, we ask that you please:
(1) be prepared to pick up your child immediately (within 30 minutes) upon receiving a call that your child is in our isolation room.

(2) call or email the nurses (lreese@theglobeacademy.net / crobinson@theglobeacademy.net) if your child is going to be kept home for illness. Continue to email the front office about absences, as well.

(3) call the school and nurse if your child is diagnosed with covid! We need to have that information as quickly as possible. Also, call if your child has had close contact with someone with covid.

(4) if your child tells you that he is continually pulling up his mask, please take a stitch in the straps or do whatever you can to get a better fit. If that isn’t doable, please purchase a better-fitting mask.

Also, please continue to get medications and paperwork in to us for asthma, food allergies, etc. We will walk out to the front sidewalk to retrieve them from you.
Re-Imagine: GLOBE Afternoon Carpool Pick-Up

GLOBE is partnering with drive-thru logistics experts from Chick-fil-A Inc. to re-imagine afternoon carpool pick up at Lower and Upper Campus. Please complete this survey by April 21, 2021 to share your thoughts on the current afternoon pick-up process. We look forward to hearing from you!
Attendance Policy Updates

If your child is sick on an in-person school day, please do not have them join the class virtually instead. Think about a regular school year if your child stays home from school, they do not have the option to "tune-in."

Of course, this year there is an exception. If your child is asked to quarantine by GLOBE personnel, they are permitted and expected to tune into their classes virtually. One of your child's lead teachers will contact you with information regarding the times and links. If your child is already fully virtual and they are sick, please email your child's lead teachers and the front office and they will be counted as absent for that day.
Lower Campus

LC Walkers
LC students who live within walking distance of the school, please reach out to the front office if you would like to transition to walking to school instead of using carpool. Once we have the number of families that live within walking distance and choose to walk, we will share the details for their daily Health Screening.

Upper Campus

Water Bottles
Please make sure that your student is bringing a water bottle to school that will enable them to drink without removing their mask. Students should have a straw OR a water bottle with a long enough spout that the water bottle can go beneath the mask for drinking.
YEARBOOK

When the yearbooks arrive, there will be at most 25 available for purchase. If you want to ensure that you get one, please go to Jostens now and order yours.
