HEY
GLOBE
COMMUNITY
This is the best resource for staying in the know.
Dear GLOBE Community,

It’s that time again … Graduation is right around the corner and we are excited to celebrate this year’s class of 8th Grade Graduates with online profiles as they prepare to bid farewell to The GLOBE Academy.

Eighth grade parents, please have your child fill out this questionnaire by April 30, 2021. Also, please also send a clear photo of your 8th grader to communications@theglobeacademy.net. Photos don't need to be formal. Please return the following permission slip granting GLOBE permission to feature your student on the school's website to the email address above.

  • Arrive ON TIME (by 8 AM)
  • Grade 3 ONLY: See communication from Ms. Blunt and Ms. Catinella regarding Chromebooks for testing.
  • Grades 4-8: Bring Chromebook AND charger to school on the last day of regular classes before testing (Friday for Th/F students, Monday for M/T students; fully virtual students can bring their Chromebook and charger with them on the first day of testing) - Chromebooks will STAY at school until testing is complete

Continuing Our Efforts Against the Spread of COVID-19

Thank you to all of our parents and staff for your vigilance in keeping GLOBE's COVID policies and procedures and for your support as we work to create the safest on-campus environment as possible. On May 3, 2021, K-5 students currently attending school face-to-face 2 days per week will transition to attending 4 days per week (M,Tu, Th, F). Let's remember to stay vigilant and keep wearing those masks over your mouth and nose, wash your hands well, and keep your distance from those who aren't in your usual pod.

We will continue to track the DeKalb data on the GLOBE COVID-19 Data Dashboard and continue to add information about the number of cases reported weekly at LC and UC separately. Student and staff privacy is of utmost importance – the school nurses are strictly following the COVID-19 reporting and contact tracing guidelines and identifying information about those who test positive will not be available.

What to do if you or your child have tested positive or had close contact with someone who is positive:

Please contact the appropriate school nurse, Lindsay Reese (Lower Campus) or Cherrie Robinson (Upper Campus), immediately.
GENERAL UPDATES
Good Job!

Congratulations to Tiras Burton and Kendall Marshall for representing GLOBE at the Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair last week. We are also pleased to announce that Kendall Marshall brought home the Sigma Xi, CDC Chapter Public Health Science Award! Way to go!
Georgia DOE has $10M available to reimburse qualified expenses paid by parents/caregivers to support their SPED kids during the COVID closure of schools. Expenses from 3/13-12/31/20 are eligible. Students must have an IEP on file, applicants need to submit receipts, and your child's GTID number for a chance of up to $500 reimbursement for each category of expenses.
Applications are due by May 14. Direct inquiries can be sent to spedreimbursement@doe.k12.ga.us.
Re-Imagine: GLOBE Afternoon Carpool Pick-Up

GLOBE is partnering with drive-thru logistics experts from Chick-fil-A Inc. to re-imagine afternoon carpool pick up at Lower and Upper Campus. Please complete this survey by April 21, 2021 to share your thoughts on the current afternoon pick-up process. We look forward to hearing from you!
Attendance Policy Updates

If your child is sick on an in-person school day, please do not have them join the class virtually instead. Think about a regular school year if your child stays home from school, they do not have the option to "tune-in."

Of course, this year there is an exception. If your child is asked to quarantine by GLOBE personnel, they are permitted and expected to tune into their classes virtually. One of your child's lead teachers will contact you with information regarding the times and links. If your child is already fully virtual and they are sick, please email your child's lead teachers and the front office and they will be counted as absent for that day.
Lower Campus

Afternoon Carpool
As a reminder, the carpool lines tend to be fairly short beginning around 2:50 p.m. The carpool process does not end until 3:10 p.m. Please do not feel as if you need to be here right at 2:35 p.m.

LC STAMP Makeups and Results
LC STAMP Makeups will be scheduled for 5/5/21 - after 3rd grade Milestones.
This is an asynchronous day (Wednesday).

Results from STAMP will be released once all GLOBE students are finished testing and all scores have come in 2nd-8th.

Upper Campus

Water Bottles
Please make sure that your student is bringing a water bottle to school that will enable them to drink without removing their mask. Students should have a straw OR a water bottle with a long enough spout that the water bottle can go beneath the mask for drinking.
STAMP Testing Results
Results from STAMP will be released once all GLOBE students are finished testing and all scores have come in 2nd-8th.
