Reopening Plan Review Team
*We are unsure when we will be able to have school back in the building. When we do, whether it is hybrid or all in, we want to be more than ready. We are looking for some parents who would like to be a part of GLOBE's reopening plan review team. We are looking for parents with expertise in this area of opening spaces during this pandemic. Parent Sessions
GLOBE recently offered four parent sessions by the leadership team to provide insight for parents to better prepare for school in virtual mode. If you weren't able to stream them live, find the recordings and slides from each here.

In-Person Virtual Learning Assistance for Kindergarten-5th Grade
The ECP Program is offering childcare, which is intended for elementary age children whose parents must leave the home to work. The Aftercare workers will be providing a safe space using strict COVID-19 guidelines.

The GLOBE's In-Person Virtual Learning Care (IVLC) is designed to provide students a comfortable and safe environment to accomplish their virtual learning/digital assignments, grow and play in a safe space. Kindergarten thru 3rd grade will meet at Lower Campus from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4th and 5th grade will meet at Upper Campus from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Space will be extremely limited. There will only be 12 openings for each grade level.

Tech Troubles?

If your student is having technical difficulties with connecting to Google Classroom, Google Meets, or other sources for academic learning, please contact Judy Limor, jlimor@theglobeacademy.net. Please be detailed in your communication so that she can help solve your issue as quickly as possible!
Have Curriculum Questions?

Lisa Dibble, Curriculum coordinator, is holding office hours beginning this week. She is happy to answer any questions about the curriculum or address any concerns you have. 

K/1 - Mondays 1:30-2:30 p.m.

2nd/3rd - Tuesdays 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

4/5th/MS ELA - Thursdays 1:30-2:30 p.m.

MAP Testing

We have been working with MAP this summer to use their new remote testing so that we can have data as we move forward this year with our students. See below for our testing window and the parent session dates. Details for your specific testing days will come from teachers.

MAP testing will be the weeks of August 31 through September 11, 2020

Upper Campus
Upper Campus MAP testing will take place as per the following schedule:
9/1 - Reading
9/2 - Language
9/3 - Math

All students will receive an email on Sunday, August 30, with a link to a Google Meet for their testing session. Testing will take place at the same time each day – either 8:00 a.m. or 12 p.m. There will be no regular classes (synchronous or asynchronous) on these days; students will have project work to complete independently when not testing.

LC tips for GLOBE Language:


1. Step by step:
First 6 Weeks of School are for practicing language, routines, and expectations
2. Check for schedules:
  • Email/ Weekly Communications from the teacher
  • Google Classroom
  • Slide decks in Google Classroom
  • Take note of the 20 mins. your child’s group will meet!
3. Class time is class time.
Make an appointment with your teacher to ask specific questions about your child’s schedule.
4. Have a positive attitude towards your child’s learning process and support from home:
  • Create a hand-made word wall in the language with drawings - add 3 words/phrases each week (K example: Hello, Goodbye, Good Morning)
  • Listen to music in the language
  • Watch familiar movies in the language

GENERAL UPDATES
Chromebook Insurance 
(Mandatory for all UC Students)
Purchase insurance for $20 here to cover unlimited claims for the duration of the school year. When registering online, search for The GLOBE Academy (not DeKalb County), and select Chromebook from the drop down menu. Parents do not need to include the device serial number-that will be provided directly to School Device Coverage from school administration. Disregard the deadline; parents are still able to purchase insurance at this time. (Click image to complete the form.)

Admissions
In Case You Missed It...
Orientation took place on Monday August 17, 2020. If you missed it, here is a link to the platform. Google Meet links will no longer be open.
Additionally, this year, GLOBE sent out forms digitally to collect information usually submitted at Orientation. On Tuesday, August 4, families should have received the following for each child: 1.) A Welcome Letter 2.) Student Health Form 3.) Handbook Acknowledgement 4.) Photo release/permission form 5.) Device (Chromebook or iPad) Terms of Use Form. *Only one parent/guardian is required to complete the forms. Families who received form to multiple email addresses should designate only one email recipient to sign. Additional email recipients may disregard or decline the packet. If you received the packet to an email address different from what you prefer, you can hit “forward” and send to your preferred email address.
 
In the event you are unable to complete this information from your home computer or device, or you did not receive the Welcome Letter and Electronic Packet, send an email to megan.brown@theglobeacademy.net.
Registration Requirements and Proof of Residence

Welcome back to the 2020-21 School year at The GLOBE Academy. Be sure to read the following information closely and reach out to registrar@theglobeacademy.net with any questions.

All GLOBE students are required to officially register for the 2020-21 school year. If you have not registered yet, you must do so immediately as the deadline has passed.

As a reminder, Parents or Guardians of ALL GLOBE students are required to submit an updated proof of residence for DeKalb County School District every year to confirm enrollment. This means returning students. 
You must email an updated proof of residence document for the month of July or August to
enrollment@theglobeacademy.net by August 14, 2020.

Your student’s full name and grade level should be stated in the email subject line. (For siblings residing within the same household, include ALL of your children’s full names and grade levels within the body of the email.) Failure to send all student’s names will result in not being registered for the 2020-21 school year. Newly enrolled siblings of current GLOBE families will not need to submit additional proof of residence, as this is already required for new students.
The following documents are acceptable:
  • Current mortgage statement (No more than 30 days old)
  • Current utility bill Gas, water, or electric only. (We cannot accept phone or cable bills).
  • In the case of a Lease, provide the following 2 pieces of documentation:
(i) Current lease agreement
(ii) Current utility bill – gas, water or electric ONLY
* If the parent or guardian is not the homeowner/lessee (the parents reside with someone else and do not have a mortgage or lease in their name, or do not have a utility bill in their name for a DeKalb County School District address, please click on the Affidavit of Residence category for registration).  

Please note that you will not receive a confirmation email upon submitting your required registration. If your paperwork is not correct, or additional information is needed, the Registrar will contact you.
Nutrition
We are pleased to be working with Preferred Meals to serve our students a nutritious lunch each day at the price of $4.00. Lunch payments can be submitted at the front desk or MyPaymentsPlus.com. You may visit the school website to view the lunch menu in advance.

During virtual days of learning, meals will be available through DeKalb County Schools. Please remember to apply for free/reduced meal benefits. The online application is now available and is quick, easy, and secure. Apply here by Sept. 18, 2020.

All families are encouraged to apply for benefits, even if you think you do not qualify. If you currently receive benefits, you are required to reapply for the 2020-21 school year. Please contact the Nutrition Director, Briana Caddell, if you have any questions or need assistance at nutrition@theglobeacademy.net.

School Supplies
Don’t forget to check the school Distance Learning supply lists for 2020-2021 school year on our website.

The Development Committee meetings are open to the public and are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. remotely via Zoom.

We had some technical difficulties with the links to the Annual Fund donation form in the parent orientation packet that was recently sent out. We have fixed the issue and have a new link to the form, but please note that the old links no longer work. We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.
