This is the best resource for staying in the know.
Dear GLOBE Community,

Yesterday, the DeKalb County School District announced its plan to safely reopen schools beginning March 9, 2021.

Please note that the dates for The GLOBE Academy’s reopening have not yet been determined. GLOBE’s reopening committee will meet next Tuesday, March 2nd to review our data and determine the best path forward for our school to safely reopen and will make an announcement on March 3. However, GLOBE teachers have already been making preparations for this transition, and on Monday, March 1, they will begin teaching from their classrooms to prepare for a potential student return to campus.

We very much appreciate your patience and understanding as we all navigate this unfamiliar territory together. We must all remember that a return to on-campus instruction will look very different from how things were when we were last together in March 2020. Teachers and students (both hybrid & virtual) will be adjusting to new routines and procedures, and it will take some time to familiarize ourselves with this new normal.

Yesterday, a Return to In-Person Learning Survey was sent out to our community, and we need all parents to complete and submit this survey by Thursday, Feb. 25th at 11:59 PM.

Check here each week for updates from GLOBE's Reopening Committee on guidance to inform a safe return, and for responses to your questions and concerns about The GLOBE Academy's COVID-19 response. GLOBE's COVID-19 tracker is updated each Wednesday at www.theglobeacademy.org. Please visit our site and click the graphic for daily updates on the pandemic conditions with more detailed information about these data. If you have questions about GLOBE's Return-to-Campus Plan, please submit them here. We will do our best to answer as many questions as possible.

Question: Will the RE-opening Playbook be updated to reflect Middle School going back to the building? The current playbook still says that MS cannot do cohorts and for that reason won't return at the same time as ES, and there are no instructions/explanations on how MS will work when they return to the building as the TownHall said they will do when GLOBE opens.
Answer: The Reopening Playbook has been updated with this information and is available here. .

Question: If GLOBE students return in a hybrid model, what (if anything) would or could lead to going back to an all virtual model? I’m thinking about the potential for things to become worse again in March and beyond, due to the potential influence of new variants.

Answer: Once GLOBE initiates a hybrid instructional model, our ability to continue with in-person instruction will be driven by two factors. First and foremost, we cannot operate in any in-person capacity if DeKalb County Schools are closed. Thus, if DeKalb transitions to hybrid instruction and then returns to a fully virtual model, we will need to do the same.
Assuming that DeKalb is allowing any in-person instruction, GLOBE will continue hybrid instruction so long as there remains good COVID-19 control at both campuses. This is why it is critically important for all of us – families, students, and staff – to be mindful about our exposures and behavior both on and off campus. A temporary or extended transition back to all virtual instruction will be made in consultation with local health officials and will consider a range of factors including the number of COVID-19 cases, the number of affected classrooms, and whether there is evidence of transmission occurring in school. Once hybrid instruction begins, GLOBE’s COVID-19 data dashboard will be updated to include de-identified information about any cases of COVID-19 that might occur.
Face Masks, Please

As we prepare for a potential return to campus, an attention to correct mask-wearing is imperative. Please practice with your children.

> All students and staff must wear proper face masks on campus. They should also have a spare face mask with them. GLOBE Trot buffs cannot be used as masks.
> Students who are not wearing their mask properly will be gently corrected and coached on the importance of this behavior.
> If students willfully decline to wear their masks correctly, they will besent home to engage in virtual learning for a period of time. Their parents will also need to participate in a conference with the head of school.
Important Technology Announcement
On Monday, March 1, all GLOBE teachers will be returning to the school buildings. Students will continue virtual learning, and schedules will remain the SAME. We anticipate there may be some connection issues as teachers transition to teaching from the school network. If your student experiences technical difficulties on Monday or Tuesday of that week, please be patient. Teachers will communicate any changes in teaching format directly with students via Google Classroom and/or with parents via email.

Chromebook Troubles?
Is your student having trouble with his/her Chromebook? We have recently installed a new extension that will help to monitor and clean Chromebook CPU and RAM usage. If your student is having trouble getting or staying connected to classes, or finds that new tabs just keep “loading,” please check this extension for more information. If the memory and CPU usage is close to 100%, try restarting the Chromebook and opening fewer tabs at a time. Reach out to Mrs. Limor (jlimor@theglobeacademy.net), if you need a service appointment.

Eighth grade students will have the opportunity to participate in a full-day language immersion program hosted by Concordia Language Villages on Friday, March 5. Please make sure you have completed the registration form for your student in order to select class options for the event.
GLOBE’s Open Enrollment has closed. Our lottery will run this Friday, February 26 at noon.
You received a sincere letter from the yearbook staff. In his haste, Ollie did not include an active link to order a yearbook. Here it is.
Connections (at LC)
To meet what we see as a growing need for our GLOBE students to connect with one another and address certain aspects of the virtual learning environment in a positive way, EACH connection teacher will include Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) content in their lessons from March 1-9, the length of one full rotation. Sample SEL topics could include: being self-aware and relating to others, dealing with anxiety/worry, and practicals on how to be kind and why it is more important now. We are proud of and impressed by how your children continue to manage through the challenges of virtual learning and we are excited to connect with them during Connections next week!

The Chorus Newsletter has details about the next chorus presentation on March 11th at 6:30 p.m.
