What You Should Know Now Registration Requirements, Proof of Residence Welcome back to the 2020-21 School year at The GLOBE Academy. Be sure to read the following information closely and reach out to registrar@theglobeacademy.net with any questions. All GLOBE students are required to officially register for the 2020-21 school year regardless of the model (virtual, face-to-face, or hybrid). If you have not registered yet, you must do so immediately.   As a reminder, Parents or Guardians of ALL GLOBE students are required to submit a current proof of residence for DeKalb County School District every year to confirm enrollment. This means returning students.  Email a current proof of residence document to enrollment@theglobeacademy.net . The original deadline was August 14, 2020. If you have not yet submitted the required documentation, you now have until Friday, September 25, 2020 to do so. Your student’s full name and grade level should be stated in the email subject line. (For siblings residing within the same household, include ALL of your children’s full names and grade levels within the body of the email.) Failure to provide the required proof of residency documentation can result in your child being withdrawn from TheGLOBE Academy.  The following documents are acceptable: Current mortgage statement (No more than 30 days old) Current utility bill Gas, water, or electric only. (We cannot accept phone or cable bills). In the case of a Lease, provide the following 2 pieces of documentation: (i) Current lease agreement (ii) Current utility bill – gas, water or electric ONLY * If the parent or guardian is not the homeowner/lessee (the parents reside with someone else and do not have a mortgage or lease in their name, or do not have a utility bill in their name for a DeKalb County School District address, please click on the Affidavit of Residence category for registration).   Should you have any questions, please contact registrar@theglobeacademy.net.   Please note that you will not receive a confirmation email upon submitting your required registration. If your paperwork is not correct, or additional information is needed, the Registrar will contact you. (We have close to 1,100 students at GLOBE! Thank you for understanding this request).

GENERAL UPDATES Lower Campus K-3 Materials Pick-Up Families can come to Lower Campus on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to pick up materials. The goal of this pick-up is to provide families with the opportunity to use curriculum materials printed out by the school to reduce printing costs and print access issues at home. Additionally, we want to provide students with other materials that will enhance their distance learning experience (white boards, book bags, etc.). Families are not required to pick up these materials. If you are able to print out the materials required for instruction on your own, you do not need to come.  We encourage families to coordinate with others in their neighborhood so fewer people need to come to school on pick-up day. In-Person Virtual Learning Assistance for Kindergarten-5th Grade The ECP Program is offering childcare, which is intended for elementary age children whose parents must leave the home to work. The Aftercare workers will be providing a safe space using strict COVID-19 guidelines. The GLOBE's In-Person Virtual Learning Care (IVLC) is designed to provide students a comfortable and safe environment to accomplish their virtual learning/digital assignments, grow and play in a safe space. Kindergarten thru 3rd grade will meet at Lower Campus from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4th and 5th grade will meet at Upper Campus from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Space will be extremely limited. There are only 12 openings for each grade level. Click HERE for more information. Yearbook The Yearbook Wants Your Photos Please send us any of the great photos you have of your GLOBE students. French FTI’s Our French Teaching Interns will be joining us in January!  For many of our interns, it is their first time in the United States, and of course, we would like to show them a warm welcome to the United States and to GLOBE! Reach out to Robyn Brandman if you are interested in hosting a French intern from January - May 2021. We are looking for five amazing host families to bring French culture and language into their homes, and also share with our interns our warm GLOBE culture.  Robyn Brandman, robynloren@gmail.com CONNECTIONS While we can't be in the building, nothing can stop us from reading. There are many ways that you can support GLOBE, including helping us make connections with supporters in the community. This year, we are applying for general operating grants with the Georgia Power Foundation, Georgia-Pacific Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, Regions Bank and State Farm. If you have any connections at these companies or any others that can provide grants or sponsorships to support GLOBE’s Annual Fund, please email Meghann Adams at madams@theglobeacademy.net. PTCC Events & Project Leadership Opportunities Upper Campus Book Fair Upper campus book fair is just around the corner, September 28 through October 2, 2020. Welcome this fall weather with plans to cozy up in your favorite reading corner with a scholastic book. Book Fair will be all virtual this year, with easy shipping directly to your home. Visit our UC Book Fair page, the link to order will go live on September 28th. Volunteers Wanted We are looking for volunteers to help us with some maintenance items in our school grounds. PTCC Speaker Series PTCC is excited to announce that Drew Reynolds will be the second speaker in the PTCC Speaker Series on Monday, September 28th at 8:30 p.m. Drew is a GLOBE parent and former teacher/online instructor who will share some ideas for supporting your child through online learning. He will share some research on online learning and offer tips and strategies for making learning work from home.  The link to view will be posted to the Parents and Teachers Facebook page.

GLOBE Distance Learning ... A few things to keep in mind

If your student is having technical difficulties with connecting to Google Classroom, Google Meets, or other sources for academic learning, please contact Judy Limor, jlimor@theglobeacademy.net. Please be detailed in your communication so that she can help solve your issue as quickly as possible! For iPad-related issues (Kindergarten and first grade students only), please peruse THIS HELP DOCUMENT. If you have further questions after reading the document, email Cutia Blunt, cblunt@theglobeacademy.net.  Responsive Classroom At GLOBE, we believe the first few weeks of school should be spent laying the foundation for a successful school year. Most of our classrooms have transitioned to the second phase of the First Six Weeks of School. The students are becoming more and more independent. They know the routines and the expectations. The regular daily schedule should be in place now as they start diving deeper into content. The students have more responsibility and the tasks are becoming more complex.  Attendance We ask that students remain present as much as possible during Distance Learning. Students will be counted present on synchronous days when they are logged on and engaged in classes. On asynchronous days, students will be counted present when they submit the required work by the deadline indicated. Please treat online classes as you would face-to-face classes. If your student has a doctor's appointment, please provide a copy of the doctor's note to the teacher(s) AND the front office staff at the respective campus to excuse the absence. If your student is sick, an email from the parent will suffice. If a student is out 3 or more consecutive days, a doctor's note is required. We cannot accept notes after two weeks from the date of absence. Please keep in mind that teachers will take attendance for each class session. If the student joins after attendance is taken, then that student might be marked as "Tardy-Unexcused." However, if there is avalid reason for the tardy, an email can be sent to the front office staff. Absences and tardies due to "technological difficulties" are still absences and tardies. An email to the front office staff and ccing school administration explaining the trouble may "excuse" the absence or tardy, but will not remove it.

A Friendly Communications Reminder

The GLOBE Academy Facebook pages provide a fantastic platform for parents to get to know one another and share information. However, please be reminded that official information regarding school events will be posted by school staff. If you need information — about school activities, calendar dates, etc. — please use email as your primary method for reaching out to teachers and school administrators in order to make sure all information is accurate and up-to-date.
