In June, Governor Brian P. Kemp and State School Superintendent Richard Woods of the Georgia Department of Education issued a joint statement that Georgia will submit a waiver request to the U.S. Department of Education for the suspension of high-stakes testing and accountability for the 2020-2021 school year - specifically the 2020-2021 Georgia Milestones assessments and the College and Career Readiness Index ( CCRPI ) and the report card (school and district rating systems), in order to allow schools to focus on the remediation, growth and safety of students as they return to full instruction this fall. Please take a few moments to provide your input regarding Georgia seeking a waiver from mandatory assessment and accountability requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. GLOBE Reopening Plan *UPDATE*

Dear parents,  It is important to me that we continue to communicate with you regarding our reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year. I sincerely appreciate the patience of our community towards our school leaders and me, as the dynamics relative to COVID-19 and school reopening continue to evolve. This email serves as an update to share actions that GLOBE has taken to date and next steps in our planning.  As many of you know, the Georgia Department of Education in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health has developed guidance to support districts and communities in determining their plans and strategies for reopening schools.This framework to re-opening outlines the complexity and decisions that schools and districts will need to consider. I encourage you all to review this information. The framework outlines the need for schools to have a 100% digital/distance learning model if the pandemic becomes more severe; to have a 100% in-person model if disease spread is low to none; and to have a hybrid (digital and in-person model) when disease spread is minimal to moderate. Gifted at GLOBE Please check the Gifted at GLOBE website for recent updates and information about the gifted identification process from the 2019/2020 school year. Feel free to email Jana Burrow, Gifted coordinator, at gi fted@theglobeacademy.net with any questions.  Nutrition Students are welcome to bring in lunch from home or participate in the school’s lunch program. GLOBE Academy is participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. Extended Care We are continuing to work on our Fall Aftercare and Before Care Program to support the new COVID-19 regulations and support The GLOBE’s educational plan. We are planning on offering Aftercare/Before Care to all students on the days they attend school. Create a backyard obstacle course  with hula hoops, jump ropes, sticks, stones, hoses, and other materials from around the house. 2. Take a family bike ride through your neighborhood. Even though you know the neighborhood, the view from a slower exploration can be totally new. You just may rediscover your neck of the woods. 3. Discover your inner chalk artist with a Chalk and Sip session. Grab your favorite cool beverage and use the driveway, sidewalk or street in front of your home as your canvas. 4. Do a puzzle. Assembling a jigsaw puzzle is hugely satisfying and can be a relaxing way to unwind, focus and is a great individual or group activity. 5. Plant a flower or mini herb garden. Working in a garden, a child can experience the satisfaction that comes from caring for something over time, while observing the cycle of life firsthand. FUNDRAISING CORNER School Supplies Don't forget to check the school supply lists for 2020-2021 school year on our website .  Parents may purchase at the store of their choice or from the school supplies program with Yubbler.com again this year. Be sure to register for a coupon code ahead of time. Please note that there are no refunds available in the event of changes to the 2020-2021 school year. *Parents of UC students (grades 4-8) will also be asked to purchase insurance for school Chromebooks so that they can go back and forth between school and home in case of Distance Learning. Insurance will be $20/student. Need to meet with an administrator? Please send an email to schedule an appointment. We will be using Google to facilitate face-to-face meetings during the school closure. Our summer office hours will be M-Th from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  These are subject to change. We are asking that anyone who visits the building wait to come in until someone has greeted you at the door. If you do come into the building, we also ask that you wear a mask and use hand sanitizer.
