Meredith Pizzi is a leader in Music Therapy Entrepreneurship and a passionate and energetic champion for the music therapy profession
. Meredith is the
Founder and Executive Director of Roman Music Therapy Services, employing music therapists and providing access to music therapy services throughout the Boston area. In 2009, she created
Sprouting Melodies, an award-winning early childhood program and in 2012 co-founded
Raising Harmony, which trains others in the use of music therapy strategies and tools with young children. All of these initiatives have helped broaden exposure and develop new business models for music therapy. In addition to her own ventures, Meredith has worked tirelessly to support music therapists around the world in building their practices through online trainings and support, presentations, publications, and group and individual coaching. Utilizing her key strengths, she combines depth and understanding of the field with a fresh look towards the future.

Please note that all Continuing Education courses must have a minimum of 6 participants to occur. Any Institute or CMTE with less than 6 participants registered by February 17th will be cancelled and those registered will be fully refunded.
The CMTEs and Institutes listed below are approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for the pre-determined and listed number of Continuing Music Therapy Education credits. Mindful Music: The Therapeutic Use of Music in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

In this presentation, an overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy will be provided. Its application in Mental Health will be discussed in terms of Thought Disorders, Mood Disorders and Borderline Personality Disorders for which DBT was originally created and a difficult illness to treat. A particular issue to be addressed is validation of the patient experience. To understand the core DBT concepts, they will be applied in practical Music Therapy experiences. "Snoezelen Multi-Sensory Environments are relaxing spaces that help reduce agitation and anxiety, but they can also engage and delight the user, stimulate reactions and encourage communication."
Snoezelen rooms are located in hospitals, dementia/memory care units, schools, and the Milwaukee Center for Independence has one at two of their sites in the Milwaukee area! Each tour will be led by one of the Milwaukee Center for Independence therapy staff. They will be able to demonstrate the function of the equipment and detail how the room is used for therapeutic purposes with their clients. Come tour a Snoezelen room and get ideas for how you can utilize a multi-sensory room to benefit your clients!
To reserve your spot add the Snoezelen to your constant contact registration. A $10 deposit will be collected to reserve your spot. It will be returned after the tour. Space is limited to 20 participants! Free transportation will be provided. Participants will return to the hotel in time for the 4:00 PM Concurrent sessions.

Passages
Passages is a FREE student led mini-conference within GLR Conference. Students in their undergraduate studies, internships, or graduate studies present on a variety of topics that can range from self-care to cultural competency to building repertoire.
Passages gives students the opportunity to share ideas with other students, showcase an individual or group project, and collaborate with other students.
This year Passages will be held on Thursday, March 16th from 1pm-5pm.

We encourage you to invite any interested high school students to attend our special event, “A Future in Music Therapy,” on
Saturday, March 18th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m
.
Participating students will receive an introduction to the field of music therapy followed by an opportunity to attend 2 concurrent sessions of their choice as well as explore our vibrant exhibit hall. The sessions will explore recent research and trends in music therapy, and allow students to interact with music therapists from across our six state region.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
Refunds for cancellations are available by written request only. Requests must be mailed to GLR VP- Elect, Melaine Pohlman, 1839 Sheffield Lane, Geneva, IL 60134. Full refunds cannot be made. 70% of fees will be refunded if the request is postmarked no later than February 15th. 50% of fees will be refunded if request is postmarked before February 28th. No refunds will be made after March 8th. Refunds will be processed within 45 days after the conference.
