School Next Week

Conducting eLearning days now keeps us from needing to extend the school year into June. The expectation of the Illinois State Board of Education is that a school day be comprised of at least 5 hours of learning. Therefore, teachers will be assigning work that in their estimation should take the average student this long to complete. Students work at differing paces, so this time frame won’t be consistent for each student, but should give you an idea that these are not days off.

These eLearning days will be similar to traditional school days in that students will engage in learning activities facilitated by their teachers. The idea is to keep our current curriculum moving forward. Daily assignments for each class will be academically worthwhile and continue the learning of content they would have covered if school were in session traditionally. Please email the school office if your student is ill and cannot do the work on the day assigned, but understand that all work assigned is expected to be completed.

No school work will be assigned during our scheduled spring break from March 23-27.

Teacher Expectations for eLearning Days
Teachers will post assignments on their webpage and send an email to parents by 9:00am daily. Teachers are expected to check and respond to email periodically between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm.

Grace does not expect Faculty and Students to be actively online all six hours of eLearning days. Both teachers and students will have home and family obligations. Our expectation is that both groups check email periodically and respond when necessary.

Problems on eLearning Days
Assignment Questions: What would you do on a normal school day? Contact a classmate or email the teacher. Please note the times above (Teacher Availability) for a timely response from your teacher.

Technology Needs
If your student is in need of a laptop or iPad to do their work, the school will be open on Monday, March 16 from 9:00am-12:00pm for families to come by and pick up what they need.

We realize the significant impact this decision will have on our students, families, and staff. However, the health and safety of our students and staff are our number one priority. We currently have no indication of the coronavirus in our school, but are initiating our e-learning plan out of an abundance of caution.
Our current plan is to return to school following Spring Break on March 30, but this will be evaluated in the days leading up to then.

Thank you for your understanding and adaptability as we move through this unprecedented time in our society. Stay safe.
