Dear GMAR Members,

It’s April and that means it’s Fair Housing Month. I’d like to encourage you to use the Equal Housing Opportunity logo in your advertising, website, etc. You can download it here, free. NAR also has a plethora of social media posts, ads, copy, and other resources for you to use, also free, just click here to access them.

Additionally, on May 10th - 11th, the GMAR will be sponsoring the A Home For Everyone Conference at the Hyatt Hotel in Milwaukee. The 2022 conference theme is The Year of Advocacy and will feature speakers such as NAR’s very own Bryan Greene, VP of Policy Advocacy. I encourage all of you to join us there!

April also means that it’s election time. As you know, the GMAR and WRA are very active in government affairs and we would not be nearly as effective as we are without your support and contributions to RPAC. Thank you! The GMAR endorsed the newly elected Mayor of Milwaukee, Cavalier Johnson. And WRA endorsed Maria Lazar.

Finally, the GMAR has been focusing on keeping our social pages up to date with the latest news and events along with helpful industry-related information that you can share with your network. We’ve created a 'Members Only' Facebook group where we post association news and events. You can use this page as a way to connect with fellow REALTORS® as well as reach out to the GMAR staff with any comments or questions. We also have an Instagram account with the information you can use to push out to your clients.

Happy Passover and Happy Easter to everyone!

Discrimination in the real estate industry is real and ongoing. You, as community leaders, have the opportunity to be a part of the transformative solution, providing equal service to all.

April is Fair Housing Month and a great time to affirm you’re helping to build thriving, inclusive communities. Fair housing impacts all NAR members, all markets, and all neighborhoods.
The GMAR is running low on SentriLock lockboxes at our office. If you have extra lockboxes that you are not currently using we ask that you please return them to the GMAR office. We would be happy to pick them up at your office if that is more convenient.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a pickup, please contact Joanna Tusing at
Dear Member,

Foreclosure equity theft is now out the door, thanks to you!
On March 31, Gov. Tony Evers signed another WRA priority from REALTOR® & Government Day (RGD) into law because of your efforts on February 9, 2022. With the passage of the new foreclosure equity theft law, Wis. Act 216, YOU helped end Wisconsin's longstanding legal authority allowing counties to keep the net proceeds on tax foreclosures of non-homestead properties, like commercial, farms and vacant land.
Foreclosure equity theft joins 40-year access easements and homeowners associations (HOAs) as issues YOU advocated for at RGD that have been signed into law! Only one more RGD issue left to go, which is SB 629/AB 603, shovel-ready workforce housing sites.
Thank you again for attending RGD and advocating for the real estate industry and private property rights.

Boosting Your Business With Diversity And Inclusion:
A great first step is to ensure that any potential client who encounters your website or other marketing sees that you work with individuals of all backgrounds.
Past Segregation Lives With Us Today:
Discrimination in housing in the early 20th century was pervasive, due to the actions of federal, state, and local governments along with lenders, developers, REALTORS®, and private parties. This was not “de facto” segregation resulting from individuals choosing where they wanted to live based on the skin color of their neighbors, but rather it was the result of government policies. Read More Here
Fair Housing Quiz 2022:
1. What should the broker do if a buyer asks if the neighborhood is “good” or if there are “nice kids” in the schools?
2. Standard of Practice 10-5 prohibits REALTORS® from using harassing speech, hate speech, epithets, or slurs based on the protected classes of Article 10 with respect to all of their activities. Which of the following would likely not violate Article 10-5?
