MESSAGE FROM GMAR CHAIRMAN - KEL SVOBODA

Happy 4 th of July!
As we head into the holiday weekend, I would like to ask all of you to think about the last few months in the real estate industry.
We’ve been hit by a world-wide pandemic that caused our business to hit the brakes, and recently we’ve witnessed the death of George Floyd, setting off world-wide protests.
I think our industry will be able to weather both crises. The pandemic doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, but being deemed an essential business has allowed buyers and sellers to continue with their transactions, albeit at a reduced capacity. Being able to practice real estate over the last few months, will help us get through the summer and pull out of the recession in good shape.
The death of George Floyd has caused our society to rethink how we treat people of different races. Something our industry dealt with decades ago. The REALTOR® Code of Ethics and Fair Housing laws are proof that we believe all people should be treated with respect and fairness. But, we cannot rest on our past accomplishments and say “we’re done!” Defending what we believe in is a day-to-day, transaction-by-transaction effort.
I read a news article about two women in New York, one is 101 and the other 95. They survived the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression and the Holocaust in the first half of their lives.
I think we can get through this year as long as we keep our eye on where we’re going. Be safe and treat everyone with kindness and respect.
Sincerely,
Kel Svoboda, Chair

SE WI EMERGENCY SUPPORT GROUP UPDATES
GMAR member Rochelle Gamauf and her team at the SE WI Emergency Support Group are still moving forward in their efforts to help those in need.  We are making a difference going on 15 weeks!!    Each week they deliver   450 pounds of donated food, personal care, pet supplies and household items to families in need.  Their efforts evolved into an official not-for-profit organization and obtained their 501C3 status. At this time they are actively transitioning into a "choice pantry". This new format will allow families the flexibility to shop and order available items online in addition to meals.

As they continue to expand their services, a few temporary changes have been made to stay compliant with necessary regulations.  The home-cooked meals have been placed on hold, however they have explored alternative ways to get the home-cooked meal concept to their families via a meal kit.  This kit contains everything the family needs to prepare a home-cooked meal. By providing these kits they hope to encourage families to learn to cook or expand their current skills and have more interaction within the family unit. Her team has found that families can cook on their own but still need the right ingredients and maybe a little positive encouragement. Right now, they are looking to secure a commercial kitchen. Once this is obtained, they can purchase food in bulk and lower the cost per kit. This will go a long way to helping even more people.

We still need your help and there are 3 ways in which you can do so.
  1. Please make a donation through the GoFundMe page to help pay for the food purchsed each week for the meal kits.
  2. Donate items needed to the specified drop off locations.
  3. Volunteer to help with collections, delivery, weekly prep or administrative assistance.

Our GMAR members have really stepped up and shown their support to their local communities and we hope to see this continue.
