th of July!
As we head into the holiday weekend, I would like to ask all of you to think about the last few months in the real estate industry.
We’ve been hit by a world-wide pandemic that caused our business to hit the brakes, and recently we’ve witnessed the death of George Floyd, setting off world-wide protests.
I think our industry will be able to weather both crises. The pandemic doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, but being deemed an essential business has allowed buyers and sellers to continue with their transactions, albeit at a reduced capacity. Being able to practice real estate over the last few months, will help us get through the summer and pull out of the recession in good shape.
The death of George Floyd has caused our society to rethink how we treat people of different races. Something our industry dealt with decades ago. The REALTOR® Code of Ethics and Fair Housing laws are proof that we believe all people should be treated with respect and fairness. But, we cannot rest on our past accomplishments and say “we’re done!” Defending what we believe in is a day-to-day, transaction-by-transaction effort.
I read a news article about
two women in New York
, one is 101 and the other 95. They survived the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression and the Holocaust in the first half of their lives.
I think we can get through this year as long as we keep our eye on where we’re going. Be safe and treat everyone with kindness and respect.
