Hello GMAR Members,
Listings are tight, again, this year which means REALTORS® are super competitive on their clients’ behalf. You may be faced with “opportunities” to cut corners. But take a deep breath and remember we still need to be courteous to one another and maintain our professionalism. This market won't last forever, but your reputation will, so preserve it.
While the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the National Association establishes objective, enforceable ethical standards governing the professional conduct of REALTORS®, it does not address issues of courtesy or etiquette. That’s why the GMAR came up with Pathways to Professionalism several years ago. Regardless of your years of experience, it’s a good idea to review the “Golden Rules” of being a REALTOR®.
Did you realize that the GMAR is 130 years old this year?! You are a member of one of the oldest real estate organizations in the entire country. In fact, the GMAR was a teenager when NAR was formed in Chicago in 1908. And to celebrate, we’ve created an anniversary logo. I would like you help us promote the stability and experience of this august organization to your clients and colleagues. You can download the logo here and use it in your email signature, on promotional material, Facebook, etc. Plaster it all over!
June is Homeownership Month, when we promote the benefits of homeownership and recommit to creating opportunities for future homeowners and NAR has a useful website full of info for you.
June is also Pride Month and last year NAR announced a partnership with the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance. If you’re interested in serving the LBGTQ+ community, check out this NAR study using data from its Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers to analyze the differences between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and heterosexual buyers and sellers. Approximately 7% of buyers and sellers in the Greater Milwaukee area identify as LGBTQ.
Finally, I’d like to wish all the dads in the GMAR a Happy Father’s Day on June 19th!
As always, if you have any suggestions, comments or ideas for me or the GMAR staff, please let me know.
Kim Curtis
2022 Chairwoman

On March 8, 2022, the Wisconsin Legislature adjourned and ended the 2021-22 legislative session, capping off a very productive session for the WRA. In the end, the WRA passed 14 top legislative priorities on a variety of issues affecting all sectors of the real estate industry. Our success was made possible by your participation in our advocacy efforts, such as REALTOR® & Government Day, responding to calls to action and your contributions to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC). Your participation makes a real difference. Thank you!
2021-22 Biennium Deadline: December 14, 2022

RPAC stands for the REALTORS® Political Action Committee. A PAC is a legal means by which interested individuals with common goals, like a trade association, band together for the purposes of political action. The best way to positively impact issues such as property taxes, health care, and property rights is through RPAC, a real estate professional's vehicle for political action. Here are some of our Members and why they have invested in RPAC.
