I wonder if Catherine Filene Shouse had any idea what her donation in 1966 of 100 acres to the National Park Service would mean to the DC Metro Area? Wolf Trap is the first and only National Park of its kind, a National Park devoted entirely to the arts.

amphitheater in 1971 saw the first opening act on July 1. I’m sure that Mrs. Shouse was in attendance at that and many more performances until her death 23 years after the inaugural show.

 Wolf Trap’s 2021 season started with reduced audiences of about 25% capacity, but for August and September performances, they are at full capacity.

Whether you are a fan of Joan Jett, ABBA, Harry Connick Jr., Zaki Hussain, Classic Albums Live performs Led Zeppelin IV, want to listen to the National Symphony Orchestra, or find something magical happening in the Children’s Theatre-In-The-Woods, there is something for everyone.

I have many fond memories of my own attendance over the years. A storyteller in the Children’s Theatre-In-The-Woods, listening to concerts while seated on the lawn (where you can bring your own picnic), sitting inside the Filene Center during a fierce rainstorm and a Peter, Paul and Mary concert where I looked around wondering who all of those old people were in attendance with me.

The First Baptist Church of Merrifield will kick off our 151st Homecoming Anniversary Weekend on Saturday, September 18 and Homecoming Sunday Service on Sunday, September 19.

Immediately following the worship service we will have a soft opening Ribbon Cutting ceremony followed by Lunch on the Grounds. More info.
