Georgia Dairy Farmers Approve Two Milk Assessments

ATLANTA, GA – Georgia dairy farmers overwhelmingly approved two statewide referendums to continue and expand funding for dairy education, marketing, and research. The Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Milk (GA ACCM) certified the results at its June 24 meeting in Perry, Georgia. These votes allow dairy producers to continue the $0.10/cwt assessment for GA ACCM programs and amends another assessment to support initiatives led by Georgia Milk Producers, Inc.

Producers voted 98% in favor of renewing the GA ACCM assessment, which funds the Georgia Mobile Dairy Classroom and marketing campaigns through The Dairy Alliance. In a second vote, 92% of producers supported amending the second assessment for up to $0.025/cwt to enable Georgia Milk Producers to provide additional services and resources to dairy producers by hosting educational workshops, growing public awareness efforts, and organizing the Georgia Dairy Conference, which is the Southeast’s largest dairy industry event. These programs help build producer knowledge, expand markets, and strengthen the future of Georgia’s dairy sector.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture ranks Georgia 22nd in national milk production. Since 2010, Georgia has boosted fluid milk output by nearly 40%, with Georgia dairy farmers earning recognition for their leadership in sustainability, cow comfort, and production efficiency.

Dairy Market Report

The following is from the monthly Dairy Market Report produced by NMPF and DMI. To read the full report, click HERE.

Strengthening domestic sales of yogurt, butter, cheese, and dry skim milk drove higher gains in overall domestic commercial milk use from February through April. Dairy exports dropped back during that period, as losses in dry skim milk and whey protein exports more than offset gains in butter and cheese exports. U.S. milk and milk solids production growth is accelerating, with milk production up 1.2% year over year during the period, milk solids production up by twice this rate, and milkfat production up almost three times faster.

New U.S. cheese processing capacity is drawing heavily on the growing milk supply, with cheddar cheese production up 8.1% annually in April. The monthly NDPSR survey product prices and the Class III and Class IV prices were all higher in May than a month earlier. And a milestone to note: USDA in May announced its first price reports calculated using the updated Federal Milk Marketing Order formulas announced in January.

GMP Welcomes Bethany Dyer

The Georgia Milk Producers, Inc. is excited to announce the addition of Bethany Dyer as the organization’s new Events and Outreach Coordinator. Bethany recently graduated summa cum laude from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Communication. Bethany also served as an intern with Georgia Milk Producers for two years helping to organize and plan the 2024 and 2025 Georgia Dairy Conferences. As Events and Outreach Coordinator, Bethany will be responsible for planning and executing the Georgia Dairy Conference, managing GMP’s media and communications platforms, and directing new programs to promote and support GMP member farms.

“We are thrilled to have Bethany on the Georgia Milk team,” said Matt Johnson, President of Georgia Milk Producers, Inc. Board of Directors. “As an intern with GMP, she showed a passion for promoting Georgia’s dairy farmers, and we believe she will help us to grow our educational programs and share the great stories that our farm families have to tell.”

Bethany and her husband, Braydon, were married in May 2025 and currently live in their hometown of Fairmount, GA.

F00d Prices Stay Warm as Grills Heat Up

This is an excerpt from the American Farm Bureau's Market Intel Series. To read the full article, CLICK HERE.

As Americans head to the grocery store to stock up for their yearly Fourth of July celebrations, many will see their cookout bills finally starting to level out.

American Farm Bureau volunteers visited their local grocery stores across the country in early June to give us a taste of prices for common Fourth of July cookout staples. Each year, they shop for a 10-person feast of cheeseburgers, chicken breasts, pork chops, potato chips, pork and beans, fresh strawberries, homemade potato salad ingredients, fresh-squeezed lemonade ingredients, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream. To feed this hungry crowd in 2025, you can expect to pay $70.92, not including additional drinks or other personal favorites. Each person’s meal is only 3 cents lower than last year, with the total cost coming to $7.09 a person. While that price is down slightly from 2024, it remains 19% higher than five years ago.

On the Grill

As grills begin to heat up across the country, your main dish may be impacted by varying meat prices. This year, 2 pounds of ground beef for your hamburger patties have increased over 50 cents from last year, reaching $13.33. This represents the highest price for beef ever recorded in this survey. Persistent drought conditions have shrunk the nation’s cattle herd to historic lows and tightened beef supplies in cold storage. At the same time, steady consumer demand and concerns about potential cattle import disruptions, such as from the emerging New World screwworm threat, are adding further pressure to prices. As a result, beef prices continue to climb, breaking records month after month.
