Informational Sessions on Upcoming Disparity Study
The Office of Equity and Inclusion invites neighbors and members of the business community to two virtual informational meetings via Zoom to learn more about its upcoming disparity study.

The study is designed to identify disparities in the utilization of minority- and women-owned businesses (MBEs and WBEs) in city procurement. It also will assess whether MBEs and WBEs have the maximum opportunity to compete for, and participate in, the city’s procurement of prime contracts and subcontracts.
The city has secured Griffin & Strong, P.C. to administer the study and interview local business owners about their experiences doing business or attempting to do business with the city and within the Gainesville marketplace. Registration for the meetings is free and recommended but not required to participate. For additional information, email Griffin & Strong at gainesvillestudy@gspclaw.com.
NW 14th and 15th Streets converted to one-way streets
The City of Gainesville is in the process of converting NW 14th and 15th Streets from University Avenue to NW Fifth Avenue from two-way streets to a one-way pair. Work on NW 15th Street is nearing completion, and NW 14th Street is expected to be complete in August.

This project is part of the Vision Zero action plan designed to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from traffic crashes, and the conversion of these streets from two-way to one-way will reduce potential conflicts between vehicles and bicyclists and pedestrians at the intersections with University Avenue. The reconfigured streets maintain existing on-street parking, and add bicycle lanes.

Where You Can Drop Off Your Household Batteries For Recycling

Batteries power every cordless electronic device we have in our home, and our demand for more unplugged power is increasingly growing. While advances in battery technology are seemingly made daily to meet our need for more powerful batteries that are cheaper and lighter, there’s a limited supply of many of the elements used to make new batteries. It is critically important that we do our part and recycle our used rechargeable batteries to prevent future battery shortages.

Standard-sized batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt) are commonly used to power portable radios, flashlights, and small toys. These dry-cell alkaline batteries are also referred to as “single-use” or “disposable” batteries because they have limited recycling potential.
