Dear Friends,

We are excited to be gathering for worship and work at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello (104 N. Illinois Street, Monticello, IN 47960), on Tuesday, September 24th, beginning at 10am (eastern time).

The day will be packed full with a variety of business and worship. We’ll begin the morning with a report from our 226th GA Commissioners and YAAD, work through the business that includes action on the sexual misconduct policy, receive an amendment to the bylaws for a first read, election of the 2025 Presbytery officers and a commissioning. We are anxiously waiting to hear from our Commissions on Ministry and Preparation for Ministry with action they will be bringing. Our returning Visioning & Connecting Leader, Jennifer Burns Lewis will bring us the message of the day.

We will be supporting the efforts of the PC(USA) to confront hopelessness and thwart divisions through the collection of a the special offering for Peace and Global Witness, of which the 25% retained by the presbytery will go towards the advancement of Peace and Gun Safety.

Once the work of the morning is complete, we will break for lunch. Our hosts at Monticello, First are providing lunch and your donation of $15.00 per person will help defray their costs. Please plan to pay at the door with cash or check made out to the Presbytery of Wabash Valley. Please don’t forget to register so they can have an adequate count for lunch, and you can enjoy fellowship with others.

We are particularly excited about our afternoon lineup of workshops for the education and edification of not just those attending the morning assembly, but for everyone who is able to attend. Even if you are not participating in the work of the morning, the afternoon is open to the entire Presbytery. Two series of workshops, from 1-3 pm (ET)/ 12-2 (CT) running approximately 50 minutes will cover a wide range in topics listed on the registration form.

As per usual, registration for the day is expected.

I look forward to sharing a productive and joy-filled day with each of you. My prayer for each of us is recognition of the truth of the words of Scripture from I Corinthians 15:58, “…. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Blessings,

Karen Wellington,PWV Moderator

From Special Offerings — Support the Peace & Global Witness Offering

As congregations receive the Peace & Global Witness Offering on World Communion Sunday, we recognize they do so with many concerns on their hearts for our siblings around the world. Climate change, violence and the refugee crisis in so many countries are humanitarian disasters of particular concern.

Community Circle: Disability Inclusion

September 10, 2024, at 1-2 pm Eastern

This Community Circle will be an opportunity to talk about how to be more intentional to include people with disabilities in our faith communities so that all feel they belong. Rev. Sarah VanderZee McKenney and Rev. Deborah Huggins join us for this conversation as we explore concrete practices and learn about resources.

All are invited to join Presbyterians for Earth Care for a virtual monthly study of:

Let Justice Roll Down: God’s Call to Care for Neighbors and All Creation

Justice Roll Down: God’s Call to Care for Neighbors and All Creation, describes her call for creation justice in this way: “When I first learned of the climate crisis, I wondered how a biblical scholar with few practical skills could help and found my purpose in learning about ecology and teaching people of faith what I could. Such is not everyone’s skillset or desire, but each of us has something to do with all our hearts.”

Day: Fourth Sundays

Time: 7:00 pm Eastern/ 6:00 pm Central/ 5:00 pm Mountain/ 4:00 pm Pacific. The study will run for 75 minutes.

Dates: Sept. 22nd, Oct. 27th, Nov. 24th, Dec. 22nd, Jan. 26th, Feb. 23rd, Mar. 23rd, Apr. 28th, May 26th.

Study Leaders: Rev. M. Courtenay Willcox and Rev. Lucy Youngblood

"As If We Were Dreaming..."

The Office of Presbyterian Youth and Triennium is very excited to announce the theme for the 2025 Triennium is “As If We Were Dreaming…” (Psalm 126). Together, next summer — July 28 – 31 — thousands of Presbyterian young people will meet in Louisville, Kentucky, for four incredible days of worship, recreation, group study, and fellowship. Participants will be reminded that they are born to dream, will share in collective dreaming, learn about facing the nightmares, and be called to wake up and dream as they carry their experiences home with them.

The participant fee for next summer’s event is $199. This fee includes all programming, event meals, an official Triennium T-shirt, and more. Travel and housing are additional costs. (Housing will be booked by each delegation at Triennium-designated hotels via Louisville Housing when registration opens in early 2025. The average hotel cost is $169 per room/per night plus tax.)

Stay tuned! More information rolling out very soon.
