Hosanna E-Update

August 16, 2016
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.
From Pastor Linda

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
~1Corinthians 9.25
Dear Friends,

To be good enough to win an Olympic medal, whether it be bronze, silver or gold, takes a tremendous amount of talent, skill and, for most of the events, a high degree of physical conditioning. Preparing for an Olympic competition requires discipline and perseverance. In the end the award that athletes receive is a medal, along with the distinction of being recognized as the world's best athlete in their respective sport. (OK- many also get advertising endorsements, etc!)
Trivia: Did you know that an Olympic Gold Medal is made up of 494 grams of silver and 6 grams of gold- and is worth about $580 in current market prices? The last time Olympic medals were made of pure gold was during the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden.
Our life as followers of Jesus is like an Olympic athlete training to win a medal; a priceless prize. Our prize is the abundant LIFE that we are able to live today because we are walking day to day with Jesus. The more disciplined we are at incorporating spiritual exercises into our daily lives, the more rewarding and fulfilling our life can be. LIFE- just do it!!
LIVING and LOVING and SERVING- so that all may know Jesus!!

Receiving his diagnosis was life changing for our entire family. As a family we knew we wanted to help others who wore similar shoes as ours. This is where the nonprofit comes in! Raising a child with extraordinary needs is extremely rewarding but also can be draining in many aspects, one of those being financially. As we quickly learned there were so many costly items needed for Christopher to thrive as well as services that medical insurance did not cover. Floor mats, adapted toys, therapy items, and intensive therapy to name a few.  Our goal is to help families alleviate some of the financial stress and make a difference in their child's life.

The first night will start with a Meal served from

Rachel Kurtz is a Minneapolis-based songwriter, performer and recording artist. Rachel has participated in benefit concert tours across the country with fellow musicians Agapé and Lost And Found, helping to raise $125,000 for ELCA World Hunger. In addition to her music leadership at conventions and congregations, Rachel is also an in-demand retreat facilitator and keynote speaker at youth weekends, women's retreats and many times at Sunday morning worship at our Ministry Fair.

NEW Book Study
for All People!
Healing the Heart of Demoncracy-
The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit
by Parker Palmer

The author looks with realism and hope at how to deal with our political tensions for the sake of the common good.

Palmer writes:
For those of use who want to see democracy survive and thrive - and we are legion-the heart is where everything begins: that grounded place in each of us where we can overcome fear, rediscover that we are members of one another, and embrace the conflicts that threaten democracy as openings to new life for us and for our nation.

Read the book, then come for the discussions at 7pm on Tuesdays:
  • Sep 20 - prelude + ch 1,2
  • Oct 4 - ch 3,4
  • Oct 18 - ch 5,6
  • Nov 1 - ch 7,8

Season-end Report from Hosanna's Softball Team

We had a fun year of playing this season. It was season with its ups and downs. The season ended on a very high note, though, with Rick Steindorf (in what he says will be his last softball game) hitting a walk-off two run inside-the-park home run to win the last game of the year. Thanks for your support.
