Golf, Fish, Compete At Local Events and Give Back To Veterans!

September is the perfect month for everything golf! It’s a chance to get a few more rounds of golf in before the leaves start covering the ground and the first few snowflakes are in the air. It’s a time look back on our golf season and enjoy the memories of fun with family and friends. It’s also a time to thank a veteran and to remember those we lost on September 11 by getting involved with one of the many veterans programs or outings available. This month’s newsletter offers great golf events and activities for everyone!

September “Golf & Fish” Derby at The Sanctuary Golf Course Opens Registration on September 3rd!

Home of Will County’s “Amen Corner”, The Sanctuary Golf Course is one of Chicagoland’s favorite golf courses for local golfers and those visiting Chicago and the suburbs! If you haven’t played in their “Golf and Fish” Derby , now is the time to sign up! Registration starts on September 3rd at 6:00am and the event takes place on September 29 . All of their events are popular, but this one sells out fast!!

The Odyssey Golf Foundation Hosts Veterans Event – Fore A Great Cause!

The Odyssey Golf Foundation has partnered with the Chicago District Golf Association Foundation again this year to host the 4th Annual Fore Our Veterans Golf Outing on Thursday, September 12 . This outing is a festive occasion by which organizations and community members can make a tangible difference in the lives of Veterans and Active Military locally and globally.

A field of 120 golfers will play a challenging course followed by a buffet dinner in the beautifully renovated Odyssey Venue. The after-golf festivities will also include a helicopter ball drop, raffles and a silent auction with many wonderful items to help with their fund-raising efforts. It’s a memorable experience you won’t want to miss!

Naperville Golf Continues To Offer Tournament Style Events & Super Fun Golf For All!

Springbrook’s Fall Scramble

This is one of the last opportunities to enjoy tournament play for the season, so be sure to join in Springbrook’s Fall Scramble on Saturday, October 12 . This 18-hole format has the best shot from each four-person team selected as the recorded shot. Any amateur golfer 18 years of age or older with an official USGA handicap is eligible. Entry fee includes greens fees, range balls and lunch. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Call Springbrook at 630-848-5060 to register.

Solid impact on short shots

Hitting our short shots crisply and accurately is a must to play our best. Many struggle with skulls or chunks on these shots. I suggest a drill to help you eliminate this from your shots. Simply place two tees in the ground about 12” apart. Set up as if the line the tees make is the back of the golf ball. Make a swing and notice where your club contacts the ground. Prior to the tees will result in a heavy and/or possibility a thin shot. Contact with the ground needs to be even with or slightly ahead of the tees to promote solid contact. Now take a golf ball and set it so the back edge is even with the tees. Hit a shot and see where the contact point with the ground is. You will notice if it’s past the tees, your shot will be much crisper. You will also notice a much better-balanced finish position.
