Dear Parents of the Class of 2020:
I’m writing in follow up to the message sent last week with the graduation survey.
Thank you to all who shared in the virtual meetings on Monday and through the
The results of the survey were consistent with what we heard in the meetings on
Monday. The consensus is to postpone the class of 2020 graduation date and have
an opportunity for the graduates to “walk across the stage” for a photo in their cap
and gown. The Illinois guidance for school graduations allows for what is referred to
as a recognition Individualized at School which would provide that opportunity.
I met with the school leadership team today to discuss the survey and options. We
also had input from faculty before the meeting with the Executive Committee of the
Board of Directors. All were in agreement that postponing the date of graduation
would be best and certainly understood the strong desire of parents and students to
have that photo opportunity at the school. So, the
Guerin Prep class of 2020 will
be invited to take part in an individualized graduation at the school on June
23, 2020, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
While we can't have the full traditional commencement ceremony at the school, this
allowable graduation option will provide the opportunity for each Guerin Prep
senior to walk across the stage in the school auditorium, receive his/her diploma
and have a picture taken. We will continue to monitor the state's guidelines for
group gatherings in the coming weeks and plan the logistics accordingly.
We will provide more specific details in the upcoming weeks,
but we wanted to let
you know we have made this change so you can mark your calendars.
