Principal Restructuring Announcement

Earlier this week Principal announced a new strategic direction. We wanted to fully explore this announcement before we shared it with you. We still don’t have all the details but this is what we can tell you at this time:

Principal will discontinue sales of all U.S. consumer life insurance and retail fixed annuities and products by the end of the third quarter 2021.

LIFE INSURANCE: Their product portfolio will remain largely the same. What is different is they will focus exclusively on the business market, particularly small to medium-sized businesses (about 60 percent of their sales come from the business market). Brokerage general agencies, such as GPAgency, will continue to have access to these products.

AIG: Their non-medical underwriting process is evolving and has a new name: Agile Underwriting+ (AU+). It is available on all its permanent products: Max Accumulator+ II and Value+ Protector II offer AU+ for clients who are aged 50 or younger and whose initial death benefit is $1,000,000 or less. AU+ includes a vendor completed tele-interview where the client may be eligible to receive an offer with no lab work, exam, or APS!
