Highlights:
Portland: 100 new units have been approved in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood, 255 units proposed at Thompson’s Point. The city received $2 million in federal funding for the Franklin Street Redesign Project.
Westbrook: Two major housing projects proposed in Westbrook to total 849 units, (article here).
South Portland: The City Council approved residential development at the Shipyard location, with buildings up to 6 stories.
Yarmouth - Council approves Royal River dam removal to restore waterway and its inhabitants (article here).
North Yarmouth & Cumberland; Open Seats: North Yarmouth and Cumberland have open seats for planning and selecting board positions. We already have a strong presence of REALTORS® in municipal government, but there’s always room for more!
Great Article on the Missing Middle Housing:
Check out this insightful piece by the Bangor Daily News (article here) on the concept of "missing middle" housing. If you're not familiar with the term, it refers to the housing that often gets overlooked in development discussions - those buildings that are too small to be considered large-scale developments but too large to be classified as affordable housing. These types of homes can be challenging to get approved and difficult to build, yet they play a critical role in addressing housing shortages.

City Council seeking support from legislative delegation for: property tax reform/relief. The City Council is asking legislators to:
- Substantially increase the Homestead Exemption, and fully fund the lost revenue reimbursement to municipalities;
- Authorize a real property transfer tax that is paid at the time real property is sold;
- Authorize local option taxes that allow cities to impose local sales taxes;
- Increase the property tax fairness credit and consider additional, means-based property tax relief programs;
- Increase state revenue sharing and/or revamp the formula so that communities with high values and lower tax rates are not penalized; and
- Limit the allowable annual increase in assessed value of residential property used as a primary residence.

- Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code – Code Adoption Update
- The State of Maine has amended the Maine Uniform Building and
- Energy Code adoption. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety signed the amendments into rule. Municipalities must enforce the newly adopted 2021 I-codes and corresponding standards as of April 7, 2025.
